What do you do to get inspired?
Usually I loose focus very fast and I just can't think of anything to produce, I'm just totally stuck!
I wonder if it would help to smoke a joint or so.
Do you have any experience with that?

I found that when inspiration comes and when work gets done for me are two very different times when staring at a computer inspiration is not gonna just smack you in the face most of the time. You gotta go out and find it then hold onto it untill you can get back to the studio. It usually hits me while listening to other music in an altered state or being outside. I write and record(voice) alot of ideas when they hit so When I get to the studio I have a start. (working under the influence is more counter productive for me than anything. I trick myself into thinking certain things sound good when thats far from the truth.

nice topic.

deep and complete relaxation works best for me. Let your mind flows until it's empty. totally empty. then go to the computer, it all passes through you!

I get inspiration a lot just as I lay down to go to sleep at night.

Usually I end up getting up and writing things down for later. It's the best I can do otherwise I will be awake all night.

Creativity is not a cloud of good ideas that you can catch or take hold of... Creativity is more like one of many human layers and cosmos layers also. So each one of us fills the cosmos on all levels. Our body inhabits the 4th layer, our emotions 5th layer, our mental capacity is within 6th layer and creativity is in the 7th layer. So all the time we're present in the creativity space-time but many times we're not able to focus to that layer. Just like we can't always be gentle, upset, agitated and relaxed in the same time. Who is able will understand this quite easily.

So how do we make gold out of this conclusion?
Ideas are alive just like every other thing or being in the universe. Focusing on our deeper layers we can acces this realm quite easily. Hemi-sync or holosync helps A LOT!

But this is just a half the way. Ideas have to survive the human battle with software and hardware. The more time you spend o forging your ideas, the more disolved they get. So you have to invest certain time into your ideas. Get to know them... composing in your imagination is far easyer than within a sequencer. So take your time... compose a tune inside your head until you have a really sharp "image" of it. Another step is to train the body and mind so that they are able to reproduce ideas from imagination into sounds in the sequencer. This part takes quite a long time and hard work but the reward is worth the effort.

The worst mistake people can make is to hurry up their production. One good idea usualy gets copy-pasted and filled with some standard tricks and parts. This is why many artist sound like other artists... maybe it does the trick for a release but it's not very artistic thou.

Take your time... make a small part that sounds good and play it again and again and again... Soon you will notice that it's not so good after you play it for 1000 times. Than correct that what's bothering you. When it really good the part will let you know how to continue the track. Patience is the most important thing in the music and art. It's not a race against time or labels... It's about the time you've invested in your ideas.           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. Few months ago a friend asked me how can he improve his creativity. I've realized that I've never thought about this "problem" and that I take my creativity for granted. So the question puzzled me for a few days and this is a short version of a mail I've sent him. Obviously, english is not my primary language so some parts I really can not translate as I would want to, but the point should be equaly clear.

I hope it will help you as much as it have helped me. Thinking is in a way also a reflection of creativity. You just have to stop living on challange-response autopilot way of (not)thinking and (not)living           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. I read about cosmology and evolution because it puts my attention on a perspective that is much bigger than my small misterable ego and puts me in touch with the divine process that created the universe and allowed it to evolve from hydrogen gas, into galaxies with solar system and planets, which eventually developed single celled life which over billions of years developed into more complex forms of life which eventually developed the ability to manifest awareness and consciousness itself, which is us.

So usually we identify with the small self, as being a particular person with a particular history and conditioned thoughts and feelings. But often when we take psychedelic drugs or perhaps spontaneously we may experience the divine manifest through us, and in that experience the I is consciousness itself, and in that experience we realise we are not separate from the universe and whatever it is that created the universe itself. It is passion and love itself, that part of ourselves that cares and is wise and inspired to make music and is in touch with the depth of our own souls. I think this is where good music comes from whether we realise it or not.

This experience may come, and then it usually fades away and all our problems come back and we sometimes feel a lack of connectedness and awareness, I feel like this most of the time and I think alot of people do. So its important to develope the ability within ourselves to manifest a pure interest in awareness and conciousness since this is true love and passion. Be it mediation, or reading about the nature or existence or making love with a soul mate, its all an expression of a spark of passion and creativity... and from that spark of passion the best music is made... its the same space of mind in which our senses become so attuned that we hear and feel the depth of the music in a way that is profound and inspiring... anyway...

Drop the song u are working with and start another one. After a while u should get that song you hv stopped working and give it a try again. U will probabily change some things and the song will sound better. The worse thing to do is try to finish things fast, as someone said above.

One thing i really like to do before producing is smoke some joint hehehe.. the problem is that u will start producing just when u smoke, and this is bad. Maybe u will also get tired/try finish it fast when u smoke too much weed, so u also should consider that. I am giving weed a break, but since then i didnt make music. I am like "addicted do produce" just under weed effect, i hope i find out some way of inpiration soon cause weed is not working for me lately, i was smoking more and more and the resoults wasnt good.. i hv been getting stuck after a few hours.. it sucks hehehe maybe it is just for me!
