Thanks for all the replies...and for sharing your studio equipment - Protoculture!!
=========================
I know very well that the most important is yourself and what you put in vs hardware/software what not...
However, I feel that there are some softwares better than others... I use Reason for everything, the entire production. And after playing around with softsynths like the Albino, Z3ta+ etc. I cant help but think that maybe there is a fundamental flaw with the algorithms in Reason?
So I was just wondering if anyone knows of any pros using Reason as their primary tool for psytrance...?
And if one has to rewire it...then which would the best suited cubase/sonar/nuendo?
thanks a ton!! |

I think that's it doesnt matter at all what you use.
if you know how to work with the tool it doesnt matter if this tool is hard or soft - if you know how to get the most of it - that's what important.
about what nectarious said - yeah the most of the releases on psytrance are with shitty sound , i think that the problem is not in equipment that they are using or not - it's all about sitting down on the mix.I also dont undersdand how the labels release music that has a low quliaty of sound.
spaceinvader - use what you know best - if you know reason well with all the tricks use reason.
if not - i will advice cubase although i am working with FL - i think you will spend much more time learning fruityloops than cubase - because there are some things that it seems so simple to do in cubase but seem impossible to do with fruity so...
Good Luck

Just some interesting information... I read a review a while back with Jean Michelle Jarre in some magazine where he was explaining how he makes his tracks. There was an enourmous gear listing (128 channel desks, massive old vintage synths etc). The review continued with him explaining how he produced the percussion on his latest track. He continued to say how the kicks and percussion were produced in pro tools by tapping his finger on his desk and recording it.... think about that. |

we have some outboard equipment like waldorf pulse+ and microwave xtk, an old korg m-500 synth. we've spent 2 years finding out how to sound good, and just getting the idea
- i wanna have a good analog filter/compressor whick can make any weak softsynth harder
- even to have an analog eq which can warm up some freqs you tweak up
but still, none of these matters so strongly than the quality of the mixdown. i ve heard pro musicians doing kickass tracks doing only with softsynths and seq based eq-s and some nice VST effects.
you need good monitors for sure, and good ears to hear whats good and whats not..
