what do artists charge for your parties?

hello all,
i couldn't get the words right, but what i'm trying to ask is this: how much do artists usually charge to play gigs in your country?
i'm curious because i think the scene in USA is small (outside of NYC and SF/LA), and i wonder what artists expects for a fee in Europe/rest of world.
Do artists change their requirements for different promoters?
Do artists use booking agents or handle things themselves?
i know that these questions are very subjective, and of course, every artist is different.
i'm just curious about anyone's personal experiences.

and most most important on the artist!

anything from 50 to 5000 $.
and usually artists will ask for the same fees all over the world.
US scene is smaller but people can spend more money then in India for instance.

It all depends is the answer - although many artists will quote flat fee plus flights etc- they are always up for negotiation if
1. they will already be in the country; or
2. the party may be high profile and so get their new CD more publicity; or
3. they just fancy playing at a party with a good reputation, or going soemwhere new, or just feel like it! |

Japan for sure pays more than anywhere else.
Probalbly UK got another good possibilties of payment.
If you want numbers tell about the numbers in US, so ppl can compare it.

i knew it would be an 'it depends' type answer...
how about this: if you can pay an artist 500$ US+travel, who can you get?
i feel like outside of NYC-SF/LA it would be difficult to pay more than that and have the party break even... perhaps a better question: do parties everywhere lose money?

Perhaps if you try to coordinate a few gigs around the US for someone, $500 will seem like a lot more money..

I can only talk about the UK...
but you have to use a bit of common sense - if somewhere has a large amount of psy trance fans to draw on and possibly go to your party- then you can pay to fly an international act over and pay the going rate. If not - then there's no point as you'll only lose money and would be better off putting on national or local acts.
In the Uk at the momment, outside of London, there is probably only Tribe of Frog in Bristol that has a large enough crowd to be able to get someone specifically over for their party. And they only do it if they really want to have someone on - not just to "have a name" as they'd do the same numbers anyway.
There are lots of other parties in different cities around the UK but they tend to go for Uk or local acts. And to be honest once you get outside London - a well known local Dj will be as much a draw as the latest Israeli/whatever up & coming act - its the party itself not the act thats the draw.
