Sorry bukboy although i really apreciate your comments i do believe there is something beyond musical arrangement that gives one artist or the other certain character.

What i am talking about when i say "your sound" i do mean a specific way the whole shit sound when on a PA. I also have 40+gb of psy and I DO CAN recognize some of my favorite artist's style.

Bassline architecture, hi hats, maybe musical arrangement, certain key notes or progressions, even the samples or things like:

Quote:
I always try to make sounds with heavy attack and distorsion (hits, arps, synthz) for maximum impact and pay attention to the "flow" of the track (breaks, drops, etc)

You know the whole "your sound" thing is just what it makes you ask @ the party "hey, who is playing now" and no, it is not that blotter just exploding.

I believe it has more to do whit the way you use / abuse the spectrum than musical arrangemente or patch use. bukboy i asked about "your sound" no other artists so maybe you can tell me what do YOU think of when producing, when chosing leads, percs, etc.

I don't try to sound unique nor try to sound like someone else...my approach is that music creating is about channeling and I try not to get in the way by trying to consciously direct the result towards a certain goal. Many times the tracks I'm the most satisfied with is made very fast and afterwards I cannot hardly remember creating the track. Thinking about something when creating the track or having a preconceived idea about the result is for me counter-productive.
I think that results in a bit unpolished sound and arrangement, at least I hope so because that's something I like myself...it gives bit more wild and underground feel to the tracks and keeps the ears and feet on alert.

I find it really hard to describe my own music and think that is better left to others, but based on comments that I often get:
Regarding my leads I often get to hear that "that sounds typical Spindrift" and apparently that has something to do with that the melody goes up at the end, but it's not something I could put the finger on myself.
My bass usually has a certain sound with a quite heavy mid presence and I use a lot of octaves in the bass melody.
And compared to a lot of music today I have very little breaks and fills, which I guess is a conscious choice since I find that to be trance-disrupting.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Yeah, that's the kind of info i wanted to read. I am listening to your music Spindrift, and i think you are right. You have a nice old school goaish style with exactly what i quoted before, surely you will evolve more and more and maybe change some of this concepts but i believe that's even part of this 'definition' i talk about.

Thanks.

I guess since I have been doing electronic dance music for about 20 years now there is unfortunately not so much evolution any more
But of course occasionally I make tracks which doesn't have my typical sound and every few years the sound and style changes a bit.
The one thing that I think has been constant trough the years is the melodies...unless I make an non-melodic track I think the style of melodies I use usually can be in a recognizable style.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
