everyone wants to be different in any musicgenre except pop, or not?

just some are lucky and get there own style over time. you cant make different sound for the first time.
ur always affected by your favourite interprets i would say. just mix em all together with a little bit owen "explored" stuff^^ thats your sound.

but the exploring thing is strange, u wont decide for a lead you have never heared, you nearly always take stuff whats anywhere in the back of your brain. only the lucky guys, what did it the first time... and most of them are also mixing their favourite interprets just imo

thanks for the refreshing topic

I cannot define my own sound, and I don't think I ever plan to - it just happens automatically as I work... I blame the sequencer !

Trip, same here, it always is the Sequencers fault!!!

My style, again, EMOTION!

...getting a specific sound is like giving up...

Interessting thread.. I think it´s a dream/goal for all that produce any music to get a specifik sound.. but still not have everything sound alike..

we are two persons in our "group" (whit very differnt ways to build music) and we are slowly getting to the point where we feel that we have found our way to make our music.. after exploring both dark to light to diffrent bpm music..

The result? pushers.se/music

the bullshit metaphysical answer:

hey man, like, i can't describe my sound, man, because... *puff* only YOU can tell me what I sound like, because... *puff puff*... you're FREE, you're removed from the creative processs, you exist outside the prison of subjectivity... ya know?

the other answer:

only one other psytrance act i know of uses an electric violin, and i don't sound like them.

Of course you think about that audience when producing... what do you think about?

No shit, but i still feel really amazed by the answers i get, specially on 'this' forum, i really thought i could get more mature, elaborated replys... do you think is a joke? I mean you can get as technical as you want but please gimme more than:

Im ok with some humor but man... there has to be something more about "your sound" than a 909 hat and that eskimo kick...

What inspires you? What do you want the audience to think about, to trip about, to dance to... i mean this is psychedelic trance not fucking christina aguilera / beyonce pop...

We create audioscapes, we build that drive, we conduct the groove... you must think about this when doing it, im sure everybody who produces psy think about how that massive bassline would feel on the partynewcomers' chest.

So, im glad the thread is still on and causing just some interesting replies... but i insist, i requite some more intricated posts. Not to copy your style, not to have some easy-to-make recipes... just what was in your mind when you first decideced "i wanna make psychedelic trance" and wanted to sound like... i don't know maybe dynamic's retriggered sound, maybe vibe tribe's melodies, maybe audiotec's atmospheres... do you get my point? or am i just being silly with all this words?

Of course nobody sound like other artist even if you want it to, so there are elementos that define, again, "your sound"... i would really like to ask some pros about this, even if i could tell what defines this or that sound... but i ask you my -amateur- israbuddies, what defines or what would you like you to deinfe your sound... even if you change it on everytrack but there must be some constants, at least the plugins or the DAW that you work on... but i really dont think you'd let that DEFINE "your sound"...

I always try to make sounds with heavy attack and distorsion (hits, arps, synthz) for maximum impact and pay attention to the "flow" of the track (breaks, drops, etc)

Well I have like 30 Gb of psy on my computer, and although its using up space im reluctant to delete it coz its so hard to sort it in a short amount of time, I mean if
I preview a couple of tracks at a few locations then I cant actually tell whether it is the same or a different track playing coz they all sound so similar. So lets face it, Psy artists do not have a "sound" that can be told one from the other in 1 sec chunks.

Its all dwaf dwaf dwaf squaak.

This is not to say that there aren't a few great sci artists out there, its just that the quality which separates good artists from bad artists is surprising contrasts, proficiency at counterpoint and harmony and skill at arrangement for continuity. And these things do not have an instantaneous "sound" but rather work when observed over time. Which is useless as a criterion for sorting gigs and gigs of really bad boring formulaic trance.

for example I think the "sound" of infected mushroom is the sound of "musicians" and "proficiency", not the "sound" of a particular instrument.

So can we please move away from calling "your sound" based on what patches you mostly use?

Me, Im still stuck with no solution to my space problem, any ideas?
