The Sonnox ones are very good apparently. Its the one thing I wanna get but due to moving houses and wanting to get some proper acoustic treatment (which is far more important than getting better software) for my new studio, I'll have to wait a couple more months before I can report back.

Hardware wise, I love the Joemeek stuff (SC2.2 and VC1Qcs), the TLAudio 2021 Indigo was great for overdriving, much better grit than the "softer" 50xx Ivory series and the discontinued DBX 566 was fantastic, best VCA compressor I've ever sued.

i use Waves C1 and RComp, Sonnox Dynamics and URS. The choice depends on the situation.

Quadrafuzz is a multiband distortion plugin, not a compressor.

I rarely use compressors unless I feel it is absolutely necessary.. for bass sometimes URS or an excellent free one, GranComp.

That said, RComp isn't bad!

But to stay on topic, the new compressor models in Logic 8 are quite good. ClassA_R/U for bass, FET for leads and VCA/Opto for drums depending on the transients.
Goo ol' Platinum model for smooth transparent (peak/RMS/sidechain) compression
