hi aliens xD.
im a little bit confused about what come first in the channel bass. Some people tells me the compression ( not sidechain) must be on the last slot of the channel.
have logic because will compress everything behind but in some tutorials i saw they do opposite ...
first compression then E.q
im confused :s
can you guys help-me on this ...?
thanks for your time
cheers!

I would say first Eq out the frequencies you don´t want and then compress the remaining part.
But im no expert. |

there is no rule on that but its usually better to compress the signal and than eq it to have more control over the compresed frequencies that will pop out after the compression.
but again the best is what sounds best in your ears!

You can eq before to shape the sound and compress to boost or control and then eq again to give a final touch
Personally i eq before and compress after and thats it, i spend more time tweaking the vst so the final sound is already balanced and agreeable to my ears, then its just a matter of taking off unwanted frequencies like the highs and everything below 40 or 30 hz if i find myself adding too much eq i go back to the vst and start over

whatever suits your fancy
i myself, try to stay off of compression as much as possible... but ive been forced to use compression since cubase doesn't have a peak controller to link up to like fl studios has. but i usually EQ it first. take out any unwanted freqs. and maybe add a slight bit more low end, then i usually add a sound enhancer to boost with the eq then i eq it again. and i usually get good results in my opinion however. if i used a compressor i would use it in place of the sound enhancer, you could get the same efffect but with even more control. so i might try that. along with the compress before,& eq after

I always go
EQ>Compressor>>EQ>>Kick Sidechain Compressor
The thinking
First EQ Gets the tone how I want it, but interacts with the compressor threshold, so, gotta be careful that I'm very aware of what I'm doing in the low end with this comp as it will affect how the compressor works.
Compressor is used to tighten things up - but can also 'undo' some of the EQ changes I made with the first EQ (such is the nature of compression)
Second EQ is where I stick the HP and redo any notches where unwanted freqs have sneaked back in after compression
Sidechain is just to help the mix.

I've always done EQ then compression and that's what I hear most other people do as well. If there are ringing frequencies and stuff in my bass I don't want to compress those...

often here it s eq then comp then coming back tweaking the eq but i think there is no rules , it all depends the sounds, how it s equed, the amount of compression ,what you want.. it s so easy in daw to change the order or to add a other eq after the comp, just use what sound best for the source.eq > comp > eq is what give you the more control . |

This. Most important thing is to get the sound right in the synth from the beginning. If you do that, you might not need any EQ or compression at all.

That's true, that's what I've been trying to do lately, I just been having some bad headaches with my sound qualty. Luckily I get my monitors and sound card next week.
And to Ops query, I use a compressor + SideChain + Compressor
Than I try to play with the synth's native EQ. |

I almost never compress the bass.
Actually, I do it in two cases usually:
1) Sidechain (just for volume control in time)
2) If the bass plays in wide key range (1 octave or more), to make the notes from different octaves sound on the same level
