What can be Mono?

I was reading somewhere that some instruments sacrifice nothing for losing their stereo information and that they can be mono, which instruments would that be?
hopefully that will decrease the size of tracks I think

Yes, but they should be recorded in mono and then stereoed in your favourite drum sampler 
Oh, and the bass should be mono too  |

ok check the physics of the sound waves befor trowing things in the air
Neutron lower friquency's of the sound can go and even better when mono (bass,kick,all range of friq's from sub up to low mid)
as friq goes higher it begon to get more and more "direction" (stereo)
low friq's dont got stereo even if u'll try verry hard to make it stereo
best check is ....
close u'r eyes and gently start playing with pan
with low friqs u'll never will got "the spot" that the sound playing from
with high friqs (take some rim sound for example) u'll get "the spot" right away
bottom line
Stereo is an illusion that our brain generates becouse of the distans between our eyar
its helps us to know from what direction and how far the sound is
use it smart
