what are things to consider when buying a laptop for music production as well as dj purposes?

There are a lot of options outthere, starting alone with the procesor: amd, centrino, intel core 2, etc.....

what are things i have to consider and that are really important when getting a new laptop?

thanks for the advice!!

I would recommend to look for laptops with 6 pin firewire if you plan on using external FW audio card, it's good if it can house up to at least 2gb of RAM, number of usb slots is also a point if you plan to plug a lot of gear in. Check for good silent working fan, as yor RAM is gonna get hot           Monitoring devices, know where you go

I think you should be alright as long as you go for at least a Core 2 Duo 2.0GHZ with 2GB of RAM & a 7200rpm HDD.

As for which brands to go for everyone will recommend something different so it's best to do your research.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

I'm not going to produce on my laptop, only playback for live so 2ghz may seem like overkill. But I'm not buying it just yet so things might change in the coming month

+1

Also take a look for the ports. I´ve never seen a pc laptop with 6pin firewire port, but if u find one, I would say Go For it! U can always buy a USB hub, but more USB ports the better imho(mouse, keybord, dongles).

One more tip: take a look at OS. Here in Brazil most of "brand" laptops comes with Windows Vista(the cheap one). If u plan to use a XP(and don´t have a original XP unused), u need to upgrade to Ultimate Vista, them u can downgrade to XP.           LOADING...
