Forgetting cables and hitting the solo button of an instrument that is not playing...

In the two lives I did so far i did bring a back up cd and played it but it is difficult to start it at the same time.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

You could slave your cd player to your computer, if soundcard and cd player have compatible jacks, eg spdif...I guess once both have started you' would have to remove the cable in case the computer crashes so you have cd backup... Did anyone ever do it this way?           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

1 ableton, 2 Abletoni, fyi.

I just made that up.

Common mistakes;

Using compression without knowing how to properly use a compressor

Thinking any DAW is better than another (they all have their uses)

Thinking youre gonna make money (outside of Israel) playing, promoting, or creating psytrance. Ive been djing for 5 years now, been booked.... Not a lot but more than once a year, and never been paid in any way other than seeing teh dancers' smiles and meeting my girlfriend which is payment enough for a lifetime of residence at whatever hip club you kids are all into these days. Do it for the lulz and you'll have all teh compensation youll need every time you mis-sync 2 tracks, produce a crap tune, or throw a busted party.

REDUNDANCY IS KEY TO REDUNDANCY BEING KEY. Bring backups to your backups, cds scratch, headphones break, laptop batteries die, midi controllers lose their proprietary cables (thank god korg doesnt use proprietary). And forked-up bE-tards walk away with the STRANGEST THINGS (innocently)...

Just have to play the kind of stuff that appeals to...

Whoever the hell fills the stadiums or whatever Dali and Skazi and that crowd play at.

Its harder than it looks, being a sellout prostitutiing oneself and ones talent to the masses of cokeheaded tonedeaf zombies. Ive tried, and not only was it a failure profit wise, I couldn't even make crowd-pleaser mediocre garbage...

I dont get it, I used no EQ, Vanguard presets, looped basslines from some loop site (spent 40 US on the loops too), percussion loops from another...

Waved my hand in the air a lot and turned a knob... Even got a special 'wireless' controller with only one knob on it.

So idk. Maybe theyre magic, Skazi and Dali and whoever was on that enigmatic world israel cd psyshop 'accidentally' gave me (true story).           .

Actually is better to play the backup cd 2,3 seconds after your computer starts ....coz if the computer stop it will take you few seconds to put up the backup fader,like this it will be more close to where the computer stop

The key to being successful is to get your music into the ears of as many drugged-up young people as possible, and make sure they know whose music it is (this is hard if you don't have any vocals or a very distinctive melody).

When people associate good memories and good feelings with your music they will want to listen to it over and over again.

The reason why it's hard to be a "star" with psytrance is that people can't ID a track after they hear it.

You don't even need to have vocals in the whole track. Just have one phrase that's repeated a few times or very prominent. Then people will be like "What's the track with <phrase> in it?"

Example:

I was able to ID this track after a party because the sample is very distinctive, and I then went and bought the track.

Even better example:

A lot of people like cosmosis but this is the only track of theirs that practically everyone at a party will recognize.

Ive always heard bad things about m-audio...

Reminds me of another common msitake;

BUYING CHEAP AUDIO GEAR.
DONT
DO
IT
you WILL end up spending as much or more than you would have just buying real quality gear. I spent 450 US on 2 cdj 100s, a DJM 300, and a coffin, all together, that lasted me as long as i had them, and I bought them used from ebay (took a tiny bit of repair work to fix an eject mechanism damaged during shipping, damn those eject mechanisms, theyre like Penrose endless stairs, but a house of cards, pull out one part and al the rest spring out. I used a piece of toothpick and epoxy to replace one of the tiny flanges of the mechanism that the cd hits when you first slot it in; there are 3 and theyre all necessary for teh function of the eject mechanism, which is the load mechanism, which is FUCKING CRUCIAL to the function of the thing, all hingeing on one tiny piece of plastic...). DONT SKIMP ON GEAR CUZ YOURE GOING TO BE PAYING FOR IT DOWN TEH LINE.

Not only that but bad gear can mean bad starting out djing or producing; if your gear is crap and youre used to your gear, tis going to be much harder using real quality stuff at a gig. I recommend PIONEER or Technics cdjs, Allen and Heath, Rane, or Pioneer mixer. For a startup the setup i got off ebay was ideal, the cdj 100s barebones are good things, as I discovered playing at my first gig, using a pair of geminis that had to be first generation cdjs with tiny unlit buttons the same color as the case with lettering only slightly less light than the plastic. And there were like 30 of them! WTF are tehy for?!? WHERE IS THE CUE!? Took me the better part of the guy before me's last track jsut figuring out where to plug in my headphones in teh matching mixer. EFF THAT.

Gemini isnt the worst, ION is, but gemini isnt anywhere near qhat i call quality. Dont skimp on gear!!! Get pioneer right off teh bat if you can, or wait til you can! It will be worth it when you're mixing smoothly, cueing right where you pause, and only faced with a few very large, clearly marked buttons. Pioneer mixers too are beasts of ruggedness, if you break a fader, the real fader not the plastic knob, you're a champion, but sadly its likely a defect. Not the champ but a good QC tech!

My Korg microKONTROL has lasted 6 years, and while it is missing 2 faders (due to frenzied dnb mixing, they aint no DJM fades lemme tellya right-chear) and the leftmost pan knob has a loose contact in need fo solder, and the ribbons sometimes work loose if i close the case carelessly, but its still going strong and has satisfied me to teh point that ive decided my first tattoo will be the KORG logo.

DONT GET CHEAP SHIT CUZ YOU:RE GOING TO BE REPLACING IT SOON, AND WILL END UP SPENDING MORE REPLACING IT THAN YOU WOULD HAVE IF YOU HAD BOUGHT QUALITY GEAR FROM TEH START.
