Hi mate, thanks for your advices but i already have that... some room acoustic, alesis speakers, cubase\reaper\fl studio... some free vsts, no external synth for now

But now i want to upgrade my sound

I'm thinking about buying:

Fireface 400
DAC1
K&H 300 o

My last question is about the cables, are there really special \ better quality cables for this kind of equipment??? how do i know that i'm buying quality stuff? any tips please?

Thanks for your help

About the cables let me put it this way.

For my DAC-1 to 0300s i use a pair of 6m long XLR cables that i bought for 25euros each. No problem at all with the sound.

The digital rca cable from my Saffire to the DAC-1 is 50cm and cost me 20 euros. Again no problem with the sound quality.

There's a lot of debate regarding how the quality of the cables really affect the quality of the sound. A lot say it's a myth and a lot say that it's absolutely crucial.

Since i couldn't just rent some very high quality and very expensive cables to check this out, i wouldn't even think to buy them since my belief is that this whole expensive quality cables = sound improvement issue, is simply a myth.

You can run a google search for "audio myths" and you'll find many articles regarding this.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

Hey Alex,

I'm selling my Dynaudio BM6A's & thinking of buying either K+H O 300's or Focal Twin6.

I've done lots of research but still can't make my mind up. Both monitors get excellent reviews & since i can't audition any of them its hard to decide.

The Focals cost $1000 less so if they are in the same league then i might get them.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Hey Get-a-fix,

I understand your dilemma as i have read the reviews and user opinions myself too. But the Twins were never an option for me simply because i didn't like their cabinet color.

Also i have the feeling that the low reproduction on the 0300s must be better because of the 8" woofer, but it's only a feeling, i can be wrong.

Besides the above very personal points of view, i finally went with the 0300s because everyone seems to agree that they are better for electronic music and especially with the 0800 sub addition in a later time, you simply have a killer 4-way monitoring system.

Furthermore, couldn't help it but put my trust to a company that exists since 1945(even though now it's taken by Sennheiser). The following is from the K+H site, from the history page.

“The playback needs to be that good, that it matches the original. That is when we talk about uncoloured sound.“

This sentence was written by an 18 year old engineer from Heilbronn in a Magazine „Funkillustrierte“. The editor of this article: Walter Hummel, one of the founders of Klein+Hummel.

And he said that when he was 18 back in 1945.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

i think you can t go wrong with the K&H , i listened to the solo (i guess they share a bit the same sound as the twin ) i like when monitors are not hifi sounding but it was a bit too much, very flat ,no vibes , might be great for mixing but not my taste for electronic music production.(or with a other pair maybe)

Hey PoM, are you reffering to the K+Hs or to the Focals?

In any case, don't get me wrong but isn't it an oxymoron that we all are trying to find and buy the most accurate, flat and uncolored monitors for our music production needs and budget, and when finally there is a monitor that delivers all these characteristics many people come and say that it's too flat, accurate, uncolored and therefore boring?

I've read such things a lot about the 0300s, and i honestly don't get it at all!!!

We all search for the absolute sonic truth and reproduction(as much as it can be achieved from today's monitors) and when we finally find it we turn our back on it because it's what we were looking for but not pleasant enough?

We, the producers, mixing and mastering engineers are supposed to make it pleasant because we are supposed to know how to do it.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.
