For soundcard i suggest the Focusrite Saffire Pro 10 or 26(rack version) or one of the 2 simpler Saffire models(smaller desktop version).

It's the same as the regular DAC1. But nobody seems to know what the latency is like. I don't think its designed for music production, its for people who want to turn their computers into an audiophile jukebox.
Is there an echo in here? |

The DAC-1 is a converter only. The usb version can be used as a soundcard but limited in playback only.
You need a soundcard that has at least 2 analog inputs and digital i/o, midi i/o would be a plus, and balanced analog inputs and outputs.

Thats what i wanted to hear! So please sorry for the noob questions, what are the analog inputs and midi in\out for??? I don't need balanced analog outputs cause i'm going to digital out to my dac right?

If you get a descent soundcard it will have balanced outputs and that's always a good thing to have whether you are going to use it or not.
Having midi is good if you want to connect an external synth, the nord for example that you want to buy.
The analog inputs you need them to record your external synth or any other source you may use.
I have already made my recommendation.

Thanks!
What about a Digital Mixing Desk should i get one?
For example this: http://www.mackie.com/products/onyxfirewire/
Does that work as a good sound card, i can control cubase with it? and also output in digital to my dac without loosing sound quality? |

If you plan to record bands then you need a mixing desk(and a lot more), analog or digital. Otherwise, no(at least at this point).
You can always use your Xone as a mixer for any external sound sources you may have.

oh no! I'm producing 100% digital electronic music, i was thinking that mixing desk was like a midi thing for cubase... to control cubase
First it will be only my, my laptop with cubase + vsts, sound card, dac and speakers, nothing more!
Maybe later i want to add a external synth, so they connect to the sound card you said?
I should get a RME Fireface 400 OR Focusrite Saffire Pro 10 or 26(rack version) or one of the 2 simpler Saffire models(smaller desktop version)???
From the reviews i can read now, the Fireface has much better feedback! So it has a digital out?
I would connect:
Latptop->-firewire400->fireface->-digital out (what cable?->-dac1->-XLR-> Studio monitors
THANKSSS! |

I have the Saffire Pro 10 and i'm very satisfied.
With the Fireface 400 you can't go wrong anyway.
There are two other options to consider, the Metric Halo and the TC Konnekt series.
If you want to get more in depth opinions on all these soundcards to a maximum, i suggest you post at gearslutz.com
Soundcard to DAC-1 connects with a simple but good quality rca digital cable. A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |

Hmmm look at the sound card that i already have:
http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/CardBus/IndigoDJ/index.php
Finally, a portable solution for the digital DJ. Indigo DJ offers two independent stereo 1/8 inch analog outputs; one for setting up your cue mix on a pair of headphones, and the other for the house mix. Each output features 24-bit/96kHz converters for the quality you deserve. Also included is a 6 foot audio cable for RCA or 1/4 inch connections.
I can't outpu from that sound card with the rcs cable to the dac?
Sorry i'm new to this
Thanks for the help! |

Personally I can not consider the Indigo DJ a soundcard. I've already looked at it and i also have already mentioned that it will not work because it has no DIGITAL output.
I know you are new to this and there's a lot going on in your head right now, but please try to remember what i and the other members have already mentioned before. We want to help you but not by repeating the same things again and again.

i think you ll use 10% of this set up , it s a lot of money for a hobbie and imo it s too much if it s not your job .if i was you i ll start with some bm6a or genelec 8040 or adam p22 with a rme hdsp 9632 and a virus ti and room acoustic + some vst and dsp cards.(you can already make some very good produced tracks with that) |
