Hi!
One the the elements of a party is VJing...
The lights, the projectors, etc..
But I can't find any info here about it, neither where to post this topic.
So can anybody who knows anything about this explain how you do it, what are the programs you use, best tips, equipment, operating system....?

okay here some of my tipps for vjing
VVVV - http://vvvv.org/tiki-index.php
arkaos - http://www.arkaos.net/
g-force / whitecap - http://www.55ware.com/
you might also stumble upon realtime rendering stuff for 3dmax.
for the rest, I get an xga projector from friends, a good system with a nice cpu and graphiccard (preferrably dualmonitor setup so you can preview new patches)
all I need is a line out of the dj mixer, another small mixer inbetween to control the input volume myself with a fader. the rest depends on the amount of weed I smoke during the night
oh and don't forget to be the first on the party, as you need to have a good spot for your gear, the screen and the projector. Never set up the stuff during the night, as it will go wrong

personally the trippiest animations I've seen so far came from WinAmp..
I've never seen handmade stuff (so far) that flashed me away like some of the really cool winamp plugins.
Is it possible to "line in" into Winamp?
Most of my music for you to download at:

I've used this way to obtain line in in winamp:
For line in select Open Location (Ctrl-L) and type in "linein://" and hit Open (no quotes).
there are also plugins that allow it.
Geforce and Whitecap have standalone versions that support linein btw.

Resolume is pretty industry standard at the moment
http://www.resolume.com/
I use it a fair bit at parties, I make a lot of animations in black and white using Bryce (fairly simplistic 3D animation software) of stuff spinning round and my music logo. Then layer it up over weird scences from films I've ripped from DVDs. Uusally ping pong looped backwards and forwards. |
