The new Platform album from Star Jelly reminds me/influenced by X-Dream's Irritant, which is imho opinion the best techtrance album ever made.

I don't think it's dying, I just don't think it will ever take off in a huge way as most pople I know got into psytrance to get away from the techno sound... While I love the stylre, and have loads of such cd's, alot of my diehard psy freinds just say they don't find it that psychedellic on or off substances... I think that seeing as only a few really love it, there will only be a few producers who will really strive to make it. I don;t think this is a bad thing, because it seems that when something is a bit restricted, those who produce go that extra mile to make it perfect in everyway... I guess this is why so many are getting a bit bored of full on as well, to muhc makes poepl's heads go messy

I think that the older techno influenced German psytrance which also contained full-on or later on progressive elements as the center of the track while using techno tools to give it that harsh edge was wonderful on the dancefloor, but techtrance is slowly moving to become it's own genre. The Delta (to a lesser extent X-Dream), Midi Miliz (to a lesser extent Spirallianz) and the rest of the people in this scene are moving to a place which is true techtrance - not techno with psytrance influences or vice versa, but as an organic combination of both.

I find this less psychedelic than psytrance and less groovy than techno, but this music's qualities are different than either style - focusing on the atmosphere in a very gothic way, giving those wonderfully rich soundscapes while remaining very potent stuff. Just like progressive trance has moved away from it's predecessors roots, full-on from it's fathering style and even psytrance from goa, and goa from it's acid roots, techtrance is a style that is best judged on it's own ground, not in the context of a different picture.

As long as people will find the magic in the music, it'll be there. And as long as it'll be there, people will want to make it too.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

For me, I can't really hear this music at home but I like it at parties.

What are X-Dream up to nowadays?           Both teams played hard

I hear good things about Russian tech-trance on Horns and Hoofs records. Seems to be an up and coming label.

there is new and fresh acts in this categorie - peter juergens, groove express etc. find them on electribe rec, mutekki and sprout. also dont forget mitsumoto from japan that have several tech trance releases.
tech trance is alive and kicking, but without old boring distortion.
