There are very few groups that were ahead of all and kind "predicted" the development of our small music genre. One is Simon Posdord with his Twisted & The Lone Deranger albums. They were ahead of the time of music. Stuff like that was released by artists some time after they did it first.
Infected Mushroom. If you listen to tracks from the Classical Mushroom time and just before BP Empire, this is just the full on we have now. Symphonatic, Mushmushi, Bust A Move and many more were released before the others did music like that.
I beleive that guys like those two (I remember only two for now) and some more did really revolutionary things in trance music.
Are there more examples?

Krell you can write a little bit more. Its not just throwing names.
Agree about Cosma RIP
Hux Flux is a collaboration to add. No one did what they established with Cryptic Crunch. Revolution at its best!

absolutely right. The most psychedelicious album from koyote rds back then.
I will also add astrix. I know many of you may not like him, but the guy invented his own "pumping" happy psy trance.

something to think about, but, did these artists really "predict" the scene? or did the scene just copy these artists?

wich artists? cosma, hux flux? kopfuss resonator? spirallianz? montauk p?
These artists are each one unique and they all provided sth new. I don't think they've predicted sth. I think they invented some new forms of trance.
Now about astrix....nice try from plenty of "artists" to copy his style. But i guess lack of fantasy and mostly lack of dignity rules nowdays trance scene on a high percentage.

This made me choke on my dinner. Classical Mushroom and BP Empire has naaathing to do with the full on we have now. I mean, if only....
PS : Scorb and Deviant Species are way ahead... actually no, they would be ahead if the scene was heading in that direction, I guess they are just way out. Rinkadink's "Rabbit from Darkside" was a very novel album when it came out too.

Ive been told to keep my posts short other places hehe.
But really - I dont have much to add, there is a musical project, and that project could be said to pioneer one of our current genres.
For instance, if it was released today, it would fall into a current genre name.
So - I just write the artist project and in paranthese the genre name it pioneered.
You can then try looking them up, at www.discogs.com and check out their early releases We are talking 1995-1997 for most of them.
Best Wishes

-Psymon Posford: does anybody need an explanation?
-Tsuyoshi Suzuki: This guy has been critized very much because he departed from psy trance. Well they can say all they want for what he is doing now, but the the guy was seen like a genius (like very few others) at the time when he was involved with projects such as Prana. A true pioneer to say the least. Just listen to albums like Geomantic and you will realize how way ahead he was and how good and deep the music still is today. Also the Matsuri record label which he founded was the real deal. Big Respect !!
Other pioneers that come into mind:
Koxbox
Raja Ram
Juno Reactor
Total Eclipse
Astral Projection
Rip Van Hippy
and maybe Sandman, Green Nuns, GMS

Nice to see Rip Van Hippy's name there, he's certainly pioneering. Don't know whether I'd say his stuff was before it's time though, as it still sounds totally 'out-there' to me. I've not heard anything else like it.
Other than what's already been listed by other people I'd give Doof's early nineties stuff a mention.
