There is no pitch shift, just the tempo change. I feel like it might have something to do with listening to a loud mix or the same section over and over from the exact same spot.

I've felt the same thing, but not while moving around in the room.

While I'm in my mix position and the volume levels are at medium - not too loud .... if i plug my ears with my fingers it causes the effect of the music playing slightly faster.

I was stumped when i first noticed this.
But i'm guessing that this occurs due to the sound traveling thru the body, which would be faster than in air due to more density.

This phenomenon occurring in the same medium (air) but at fairy low distances or ranges, as in a room, would make for interesting experimentation.

N'est pas?

hm =/,

donno, i read nothing making sense to me now. and bro, i know what u mean, cause i have the same problem. but itīs not if i change dramatically the position, just few cm enough to get this resault.
i usually do my tracks around 160bpm, so i thought maybe try higher bpm cause maybe itīs only that uīre gone used to it. so i tried higher bpm to check if itīs same "slow" as i felt before.

now, the real speed of my track i can only hear if i leave my room and check it on other soundsystem.

dont get me wrong, i wont start any discussion here about what it is, cause for me it became some simple physical problem. anyway the sound is more than clean at the sweetspot, but itīs not the speed i hear there, other people hear on different positions in the room. as pointed before it has much to do with reflections of a room IF U SIT ANOTHER PLACE THAN SWEETSPOT!!!!

i got ARC system as treatment and i dont wanna talk about acid effects here, acid nice, but for me has nothing to do with this effect!!! i still got it without acid, but with treatment =D=D

so i dont care on any positions in my room except my sweetspot were iīm workin daily on new sounds. itīs really hard and expensive to get a 100% treated room.

and there is no phenomenon, itīs really simple, as u leave the center of sound everything will reach your brain in other time shedules (?) and is effected by the reflections of the field/room/space u now enter. the field of sweetspot is the spot, which should be free from the outer reflections. so letīs say kinda own space. if u leave this space now itīs pretty logic that u leave the rooms/space attributes with it

also it depends on your monitoring system, cause most usually use nearfield monitoring, which is not made for doing a mix 5 meters far away to their position. so as u can imagine theyīre also not good for having a listen that far away

i placed mine about 3/4m from the wall, about 1/2m between them (60°) and i sit exactly the same infront of them. i have to do like this, cause itīs not that big room. but anywhere u will have a look u will see itīs always done like that or equal to this. the sound into longside of room, half meter minimum from the wall and position to listen should be equal to the difference between the monitor speakers. this is a really important point, the sweetspot always will be found here and only here. so the true sound is exactly there. any change in position will have itīs effect. its all only about eliminating these effects best way u can. and remind theyīre still there, u can only make them sound as less as possible.

and thatīs the point for treatment

noob opinion, =D=D

cheers
Gaiana

There is the possibility that certain sounds in your song give it a "rushed" feeling. When you move to different parts of the room these sounds could be canceling out somewhat due to reflections.

Once this happens then your song no longer feels as rushed and seems to have a slower tempo.

An idea at least I guess            ~Airyck~

It's funny you should mention that. I only noticed this real-world filtering effect in the last couple of months when I started doing press ups!

I also noticed it whilst holding a post-it note (small square of paper) and rubbing it between thumb and forefinger to produce a 'shhhh' noise. Then moving is slowly towards and away from a hard surface.

Also, isn't it interesting how basslines will sound slower or faster depending on what time of day or night you hear them, and how the feel, drive and intensity of a bass frequency is dependent on your own energy level as well..

Is there such a thing as objective sound really?           www.myspace.com/gaiana_25

It's all relative I guess. When you're energetic/in a good mood, I bet the tempo seems different then when in a bad mood and you can't feel it.

The distance from speakers thing must be just reverberations/maybe doppler/natural flanger effect.

Sometimes I forget sound is made of vibrations and that everything is just energy. Nothing is always the same.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page
