Hey guys, this one is a li'l bit offtopic but it disturbes me making music...
I discovered that everytime i turn on the computer my c:/ drive gets filled more and more. Quick check performed and i saw that the windows directory is growing all the time... Now i don't have ADSL or some speedy connection so it can't be offline files. But the hell can it be? The Directory grew to 2Gigs. Is it normal for Win2000? Help me plz.

download system mechanic, and let him guide you.
it could be temp files, directory settings, registery files, all of those can fill up your puter.
also, check for a virus, and BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT FILES!!!

if u dont set the limit for the temporary internet files folder, it will keep growing.
also dont use your music machine for net surfing!!!
thats just asking for trouble!

like Jason said, install System Mechanics 6 and everything will be ok!
and if u want to optimize your computer to the best performance u need to install 2 OS, one for the net and the other sterilic for music only.

u can read in the above link how to do that as well as other usefull tips and hints. (hebrew)

Alrighty guys i dug my Win2000 and found the problemm. And it is an interesting one!
I found at first that my c:/winnt/temp directory is filled with files of supposedly self extracting *.exe files. And what those files were you asking? It was files of known games, programms OS's and even movies and music files....
But... as i said i have a really slow connection to the web so it can't be really those files, so it was fraud files. Just weird 300K files with *.exe extension. A lot of them and they were multiplying faster than anything i saw before.
Anyways i went to search for a process that spawned me all those files. And i found the bastard. It's called Explorer.scr, anyone heard of such a problemmm and how i solve it? {I have Norton Antivirus 2002}.
A one stupid virus....

yes that will help for sure wako, but all the programs installed on your comp. will help to clutter it up more, and slow it down.
imho, the leaner your computer, the better it will perform for audio!

explorer.scr is a screensaver file.
this means u got it somehow by mail/www as a screensaver.
this means u don't exactly know which virus is, which means u can spend 40 shek on norton antivirus(this is the price of legal version) , and make sure your music files don't get f*cked....
how about this ?
besides... you don't know what else that bustard did, and where else it has written some changes ( to check this u need to scan the registry, the winnt config files and other shite, which is automatically done by antivirus...
and about the firewall - tiny firewall is a great thing - free and easy to set up.
bomski.
