In two tracks I'm doing now,I can't have a minute without the track going slow as fuck, the CPU meter goes up to 200% ,and my laptop vent starts going really hard.
Each time I disconect the audio (I click on CPU meter and it goes red, wait till the laptop vent stop hisfast spin, and click on it back again) to work again.
What the hell is it?Someone had the same thing? The wierdest thing is,it happends because of simple audio tracks, not some track with gazilion effects on it.
Frustrating, finally I have some money set aside to buy some normal equipment and I really don't want to buy a new laptop .

do you use any special new vst or au in that two tracks? how about soloing the channels to identify the cpu spike?

i have this problem periodically. helps to start a new live set and start over if you arent too far into the production.
are you using a cracked version of ableton? it is more likely the software than your computer I wouldnt worry about new hardware.
Suloo is right to check for this. when i use MaxforLive Granulator i sometimes get this problem. maybe your audio file is messed up, can you remake it somehow or do you have an older version of it that you could replace it with?

Yes,well, lets say I will repay them when I wouldn't be broke as hell, but still that started to happen all of a sudden.
Meanwhile I found the main reason for this:Somehow Ableton just can't stand fast panning, all of the audio samples that made my computer lag had panning effects(left to right or right to left ).Weird.

I've been having the same problem since a couple of months now and just don't know what it is either.
I think it there's have to be something else because I have tracks without almost any panning at all and it still raise the cpu %
to 200. |

I wonder if this problem exists in "regular" version of Ableton ,if you know what I mean.
Meanwhile, what I found usefull is,at the moment this happends, click on the CPU meter button. It shuts down audio engine of Ableton.Wait till your computer cools down, and click on it back on.

You can also try "dpc latency checker" to see if there's any drivers / services / processes that generate big peaks in your pc latency, that causes Ableton's engine to overfill it's buffer (it can't empty the buffer quick enough), and has a hard time catching up to normal.
This somewhat happens to me with some wacky plugins that hog the CPU.

When was the last time that you opened your machine up and gave it a good cleaning? If the machine is suddenly CPU spiking, it could mean it's time to go in and do a little spring cleaning. Don't just blow air into the vents since that will just push the dust way back in there and the issue will come back again. Pull the machine apart and really do a good job removing the debris.
I have an older 2006/2007 MacBook that does this same issue with almost all of my audio programs (Live/Traktor/Maschine/MaxMSP) now which are all legally owned and not cracked. That particular version of MacBook is known to have issues with sharing resources between the firewire, USB, and graphics ports though. As soon as some heavy use of the graphics card kicks in, the computer seizes up any audio interface connected to that machine. Cleaning it out helped slightly.

i always use this for panning..its a stereo dual pan ..way better than the standard live channel pan..
http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/5/1/1037727/Stereo-FX.adg
no problems with that one, just drag it into your audio fx racks folder..and then apply it on your channels..
