Perhaps an eclipse party for next year?
In the middle of the ocean? Easter Island is directly in the path for an almost five minute duration of totality. I imagine a ship could park right at the spot of longest totality and get 5 minutes 20 seconds. On Facebook I saw a posting for festival being organized for the eclipse on Easter Island. It's linked to YouTube.
Anything else planned? We still have eight years before the eclipse in 2017.

I used Meta's website and found this annular eclipse that's going to happen next May 20th, 2012 along a path similar to the one in 2017, but South of it. I am going to see about making it somewhere for this. Albuquerque is just 455 miles from Denver, so it should be doable.

Visibility wise, NM would be a good bet for the 2012 Annular. But since it passes over norcal, Shasta will be too irresistible rain or shine.
Definitely feeling South East Oregon for 2017 Totality. High desert Cascade rain shadow has the right potential.
Scheming, scheming, scheming...

I'm down for all of them! Personally, I'm waiting to see what's going to be planned for the total eclipse 2012 in Northern Australia. Desperately awaiting a line up! But I'm hoping we can all come together for the one big eclipse in 2017!

Hey! That's today. I hope the weather is clear at the gathering John. I stayed in Denver instead of driving to Albuquerque. I have a welding mask and I also might rig up something to watch the partial eclipse from here. or maybe I'll do nothing.
I hope you're having a great time at the gathering.

Hey Kev, long time no talk. Ya, went to Nevada. Decent gathering. Clear on eclipse day with some light wispy clouds during the initial partial phase to give something pretty to look at.
Annular eclipse was nice enough, but it's all about totality. There's nothing like a total eclipse. Looking forward to seeing what gets cooked up for 2017. I'm sure there will be many events across the country.
Next stop, November in Far North Queensland.

5:30 PM MST January 29th, 2015 as I write this.
Just trying to move the thread back where it might be seen and acted upon. It is going on seven years old since Meta got this thread going, though I'm still hoping for a place besides Kentucky though I can travel there too. So Aeon, is that Eastern Oregon gathering happening?
