this is the most complete, uncomplicated example of the chanting/singing that i could find that seems to be everpresent and such a recurrent sampled theme in so many tunes throughout the years and in many different musical interpretations.
i've always listened to it purely as a beautiful voice singing and tried to avoid interjecting my own perceived meaning onto it, but after all these years, i find myself curious...
any discussion: from what region, spiritual background, who sang this, meaning, translation, sample cd originally appeared upon, how sick you are of hearing it, how wonderful it makes you feel, etc... all is appreciated!
thanks!

this is the original
sung by a drunken woman who wants to fly to the stars with her lover, sorry to break the illusion
the voice is of Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle, probably covered and sampled several times since then.

wow!! and all these years... no one did "the drunken remix"? thanks yidam, I've always considered that reality tunnel as one of the possiblities looking forward to more discussion here. did this ever come up before? wasn't quite sure where to start or what to search for.

But of course, as you said, what whould you search in order to find it
Anyway, it's always nice when vocals are done by a real singer:

well the second half (which with the first half was also sampled by ott), never was part of the movie version, so either another rendition altogether or just happened to be on the same sample cd.
if you're intrigued definitely check out more of asha bhosle's music, she's the record holder for most recorded songs in the world.
