depends in the style I guess but a small break with rising sounds and then PAM! break ends and new sound sets in
when progressive, I find it easy to introduce a sound when you changing the bassline pattern, it's like a entering the next level of the track/break-like for the floor, time the regain some energy

You know the best things to do is like build it up to a big break/drop then when the drums slam back in just launch the massive synth sound. Like what Skrillex does. Really psychedelic and amazing producer he is. Infected Mushro tried to copy but couldn't come close.
You need to channel Skrillex & become the SKrillex of psy trance. Who cares about the hippies? They never pay for anything anyway, make music that sells & then make the music that doesn't that you love on the side!
I've been making crappy electro shit for the last 2 years for advertising companies to use in their ads, money is pretty good and now I can afford a bunch of quality gear for my new home studio.

I have no issues myself with making music that sells. It pays the bills & let's me purchase more gear or other cool stuff.
I have played keyboard in a band for the last 2 years that sound like a Coldplay clone. I cannot really stand the music at all, but they get paid regular gigs and it means that twice a week I get around $200 for playing my keyboard for an hour. I also usually get free drinks at the pub/bar & a free meal. On top of which the electro house crap I make for ads brings regular money in as well.
It beats sitting at a desk wishing I was makin music. I'd rather make music I don't enjoy than being stuck in an office or in a factory wishing I could be playing music instead.

If you have a phrase you've written, that's going to blast next, make a slower version of it, or some notes short, some longer, maybe a longer one with some modulated movement reaching out to the drop. and just fire away the phrase you had made for your lead next. this brings a taste of what comes next to your tune, plays with the public's expectations and gives very good, organic results. it's one way to go...
even reversing some notes before the drop, and adding some vacuum sort of sound before always adds some intensity to it as well. |
