I want to recommend this Wicked Audio Editor
Which is free and it works in a smooth way, and no install! For me its all i need and the slick way to chain VST FX is just smooth, You must try it out if you are in need of a stable Audio Editor(For free)

But i will donate to this one, and hope they will always keep a free version for everyone

Yeah Bandarlog, and that you can preview the FX before you apply is just great,

Like you say, simple and straight forward.
But remeber to keep it inside its own folder so it dont spread temp files in the wrong places..

cheers
