You do realise what this is for do you? It is just a dither plugin.

Hey Undertow, what is the point in a Dither-plug? Select it on the Masterchannel and then get the sound dithered instead of exporting the track as a dithered file?           //Zeyon.

When u export the track with dither and add compression/limiting/eqing in the master process it will have negative affects the dither noise u added with the export.

For example limiting a dithered track will raise the volume of the track and so the dither noise volume will be raised too and end in a unnatural effect.

This is the reason why dithering is the last step in the mastering process.

It is a little bit more complex than EYB describes: You ALWAYS need to dither when reducing bit depth. So if you export audio to 24 or 16 bit, you need to dither wether you will process the track or not.

The IDR plugin lets you use a different dither than the ones included with your host program. Thats all.

PS: Nuendo/SX 2 doesn't dither when going to 24 bit. I don't know if they fixed that in version 3 but this IDR plugin is a possible way to fix that problem

Thats true. I took the case that u keep 24bit till the last step before converting ur track to 16bit for burning it to cd.            Signature

Yes you are right about it being the last step. So if one uses the IDR plugin is should be the very last thing in the chain ... (and turn off the dither in the host or you are just adding unecessary noise).
