Sonica! Give an example in audio format.
one with sidechain your way then the other way around.
Colin, i had problems when sidechain and playing bass alone without having the kick to duck it.. how do one go round this problem?
btw i use Db audioware Sidechain compressor, i tried your method once but never really got it..

My solution is to make a copy of the kickdrum track, put the fader on -oodB (ie. off) and use a pre-fade send to send it to the sidechain input. In Cubase I'd also 'solo-safe' the kick copy track (alt-click on the track's solo button) so you can solo the bassline and still keep the sidechain action going.
To be honest I never used the C1 solution much either; the dB Sidechain comp has done it for me too ever since I found it.

I use a seperate kick as a trigger. this trigger doesn't even need to be the same kick... you get different results of different samples. higher pitched ones with just a snap or a lowpass will trigger the sidechain faster.
for solo's I simply lower the volume of the trigger signal. enough control but sometimes a little bit experimentation needed.
I'm pretty happy with the results I get. anyone ever tried it like this?

No routing needed, it's very straightforward. One on the kick, one on the bass. Make sure they're both sending/receiving properly on the same sidechain buss - the front panel markings basically tell you what to do.

Really easy in Fl Studio, keep the bass and kick on in the pattern and then turn either channel off in the mixer, you still get the ducked signal... and it is solo...
