my question is simple....
im starting to use kick and hat´s n hithat´s, and some more samples in wave format in my sequencer (logic).but sometimes is complicated, and i have some doubt´s about if is it really worth it .
is it?the advantegs are a few ,low cpu , better quality(?!) and......
or just use midi and then it´s more simple and easy way to work, co´s we can change somethig when ever we want.get it?!
what do U think??

in cubase i prefer using MIDI drums instead of audio... my drum loops are a bit complex so i need the advantages of Cubase drum editor... it's much faster to work. |

Fact is though... you can just do more with audio.
I used to work with alot of midi because it gives you the option to change notation etc.
However... now by the end of the track, about 90% of it will be in audio. Remember with audio you can just do more... takes up less CPU add more fx, and perfectly e.q. each sound. Also you can't do things like reverse reverbed, pitch bent time-stretched "jogging" (like a cd with a scratch in it) with .midi...
It's just true...
I know other famous pro acts who also work in almost only audio as well (having created what's needed in .midi beforehand)
It does just give So much more controll... And fact is, if you want to change something in a midi synth and you've already bounced something else into audio, as long as your initial patch is the same, you can just bounce it into the relevant audio track and it'll immediately have the same processing
It's abit more of a hassle... But much more practical and better.
Laziness never got anyone anywhere did it!

i think it all depends on what youre used to. some people have worked years already in midi format, they are used to shorcuts, are quick with the manipulations and are comfortable with the way it is displayed on screen. others never worked in midi, straight on wavs... some have converted from one to another. i'm with Honguito, i dont think its smart to limit your mind to one channel of thought... both have their pluses and minuses. see what suits you, or what elements of each suits you best and go with it.

Come on, let's raise the friendliness in here. Let's sing a song or something
Well, what I meant is that a post like this will get various kind of answers because the MIDI versus Audio thingy is kinda subjective. Surrender did put more words into it, so I'll refer to his post
and.... hell yeah, I'm with you on that peace activity |

this hits the nail right on the head... I came from audio-hacking, and became used to midi, so i still feel more at home hacking through audio, and i can work very fast with audio. I will even do some things in audio that most people would do in midi... |

but its not only a matter of taste, their are things that you cant do in audio that you can do in midi and the other way around.
like drumrolls and complex velocity chnages are easier in midi but in audio you can cut the sample put different effects on each piece and reverse wich you cant do in midi or its alot more difficult to do.
so every way has its advantiges and disadvantiges |

I know this has been brought up before, but Cubase sx vs Abelton Live... I mean, those of you used to working a lot with audio. Do you use Ableton or cubase? Cubase just seems so much stronger on the audio side... but hey, I am not used to Ableton and that`s probably what it comes down to. What you are used to!
But still, I always like to find new ways of creating music
Midi, Audio. Both! That`s the answer. |

find ur own balance between these two resources. there is no universal "right waay" to do anything. we all do our best with the resources we have. explore both systems and use what u are able to do and that gets u the results u want. hen u can always change, as u can with ur setup. i think we al agree here,,.
