something i saw today and thought was a cool idea to share:
http://www.knzaudio.com
"Control your MIDI devices with audio!

MIDIFIER is the first real-time audio-to-MIDI plugin. It converts monophonic audio tracks to MIDI. Faithfully extracts the pitch and envelope of the audio data and generates MIDI notes on-the-fly.

Update: Version 1.1 is compatible with any PC audio editor or sequencer that supports DirectX or VST plugins!"

maybe i am missunderstanding this. i could load up a sound file (wav, mp3, etc...), load up MIDIFIER as an effect, it will then create a MIDI file bassed on the pitch and envelope info?

i could see this sort of thing being bad. seems like an easy way to highjack melodies and make half-assed remixes.           The IsraTrance MySpace Group:

What about recording some guitar playing a rythm tune instead of doing it on your midi controller and then load it as a midi file to your favorite synth ... cause many of us handle a guitar much better than the piano.
Or recording a percussion drum you have lying there in your room but sounds shit, and then use a sample instead of the original sound on the midi file.
And it's the first of it's kind that's not standalone only so ... great stuff imo            Peace, Love, Death metal

Melodyne does exactly that, and also allow u to work with a lot of settings of the melody, like tempo, pitch.. U can use only monophonic audio files too. It also has another great features.. Very easy to work with vocals too. Killer program
