was the psytrance scene affected by the global economic crisis

People lost their jobs, companies have shut down, even banks were barking.. so I wonder if the psy scene was also affected by the slowdown. I realize that labels and artists were suffering mainly from music piracy and free music, but what about the past year or so?
I see more festivals this year than any other year, more parties, cheaper substance.. so I was wondering.

i think since so many were laid off and all that...many took up to djing and music making in their free time. if you look at the djset sections you will notice a significant jump in the number of sets available as compared to the number before the crisis.

au contraire...dunno abt elsewhere....but in india....apparently now u need alot of money to live like a hippy....f u know wat i mean !!  :-P !!

Its a huge delusion that there ever was any Hippies in the psytrance scene. At best it's pseudo hippies with gadgets robbing pseudo hippies with gadgets
I see no stagnation when it comes to parties and festivals and releases caused by the crisis.

not true..psytrance has big hippie influence. psytrance or goa trance started only because the hippies came to goa in mid-late 60's. there is a big influence of the hippies in the scene

Of course it affected the business, prices of services went up and this was reflected in the price of entry tickets, thus the promoters try to offset these increases. Obviously I used to attend these parties regularly, now I think twice, it is very expensive.
Poor little hippies, now complain that they have no money to attend parties.
Get a job, get it? |

Psytrance got started not because of 60's hippies but because of UK ex public school boy trustafarians taking their GAP year in Goa during the early 90's
and the music 'quite possibly' came about because they didnt want to associate with the oiks that wrote and played techno
I find it an entertaining sociological example of how (in the UK) class affects the sort of disco music you are into
