Ok...but why???
What is the different???
We can uses A/B comparison with a pro track...
I now that is not the best way to do it....but...im my case even with my monitors i dont like the quality of my sound yet....and one year without trying make better "quality" is to much time...
I now that ours advices is true....i now that, but for example, if you can say me sommething like.....
"In your phones you gona lisen a bass with more bass so do not cut too much, our you gonna lisen more the hig mid range of your synths"
Sommething like that....guide lines...
Really thanks guys

just a/b with realsed track and see.
i have some beyer 880 headphone that are known to be analytic and detailed but i need more eq boost/cut on the headphone to notice a change in the sound compared to my monitors ,so it might not be as acurate for that (same for setting the tracks levels)
i belive setting the level of each sounds right is the key for a good mix cause it ll influence the way you ll eq them, so if it s not accurate ,you ll get a hard time to get things right (if you can t hear a 1 or 2 db boost on the headphone for example it s like mixing with def ears a bit )

i had to live in an other country for almost a year and had to use headphones cause of the shitty walls at that apartment..i could check my mixes only for an hour or so,on my small genelecs that i carry around..
After that experience i have to say that,my mixes sounded hmmm not so good..but better than i thought it would be..
i had big problem to translate low frequencies correctly,hi-hats and stuff ended up a bit harsh, stereo image i think was ok and after some loud sessions i thought that my new nickname will be Fotis deaf :/
then i took it easy with the levels and i kind of got used to it..i also particularly liked this sense of isolation that headphones give you
yeah,i knew the synths/fx i was using but in general i was a bit afraid to experiment too much, not being able to be sure about the real outcome..

So,after this experience and coming back to a new real studio with big monitors, acoustics and no neighbors i can assure you ,NOTHING can come even close to that...hehe

if i have to produce on headphones again,i'll try to prepare low freq stuff from before and care much less about the neighbors,by actually using more my small monitors, lol

btw i use sennheiser hd-25 which are the best i've heard and great for djing as well

cheers and good luck

if you allow me,man, this is not right...
this sport, producing music, needs devotion,(if you have serious intentions ,of course)imo if you are forced to stay away from your studio, for some reason, you can still practice, take advantage of this time to practice new things, practice on your arrangement/make patches/learn new programs or don't know.. there;s one million things you can do and don't care so much about the final sound of your tracks..and believe me when you are gonna be back on your monitors,it's gonna be groovy

Ah... ok.. He he

Fotis elf... I agree that it is very hard with low frequences.. Best way is to have a setup or a template with that stuff ready for production...

but for some reason i find it easier to tweak leads exactly as I want with headphones.. harder on the monitors.. may be what you said.. that you are more isolated.

The low mid and mids are actually accentuated by the headphone speaker, so you need to be careful that you don't subtract too much in this area to compensate. (well, this is without using a special headphone amp. I've just read about an amp on that SOS link that can give you a more 'delicate mid', which i guess means not so blaring)

I was also going to mention the SOS articles on the subject, but Zoopy beat me to it

Cheers
