D-pole is a just filter and PPG is a synth.
So you it's hard to compare them and recommend one.
I like the PPG, it's a different sounding synth and can make some interesting sounds.
The D-pole is a ok filter, but I can't say I use it much.

ppg is a wavetable synthesizer, so yes, it will sound slightly like a waldorf Q, also slightly like a korg wavestation,... Its the very first wavetable synthesizer ever built btw... |

Does the Q have wavetable now?
When I tried it was quite a few years ago, but then it was a regular VA really.
Microwave is definatly wavetable in all versions though.
The old version with analogue filters is superior though IMO.
The PPG have a bit special sound so can only be compared with the microwave but have a character of it's own.

i was trying to find out what "wavetable" is exactly and all i cound was info related to sound cards. i guess they have pre programmed waves/samples that are used in process of making sound. is this the same thing with synths?

Yes, it's just some very short samples of different waveforms.
You then make a table or a set of waves that you can modulate inbetween to be able to make some interesting transformations.

I'd love a nice wavetable synth right now. I mean I have the Evolver, but I hate the interface and it is monophonic. I am concidering of getting the Legacy collection mainly because of the Wavestation and the ease of programming compared to a real Wavestation.
Anyone knows whether you can import your own waveforms in the Virus TI?

a very classic example of the wavetable synths is the MALSTROM >.. the one that comes with REason ...
it is very nice and makes a lot of interesting sounds .. specially the way with which u can modulate the wavetables and set Lfo's and evvelopes on different parameters of the wavetables ... the mod wheel also does some interesting stuff ... i think all it lacks is a modulation matrix !
anyways getting back to the point ... if u guys are looking out for some VST format wavetable synths
there are ineed a few you could try ...
Luxonix Ravity [s] /// synth rompler !
Kubik Vsti .......... very sucky interface imo ...
yeah .. these are the 2 i know about ... havent really tried the PPG v2.0 ... so cant comment ! |

I wouldn't call wavetable limiting.
It gives you a lot more variation in sound compared to having just basic waveforms, and being able to dynamically transform the sound between different waveforms is very nice.
Waldorf was kind to give away for free their wavetable oscillators to use with the scope modular, so for wavetable freaks it's a very nice option to build your own machine. Then you have possibility to do FM with wavetables and stuff that not much hardware can AFAIK.
The filters in the scope modular is also in my opinion better sounding then the digital filters Waldorf put in the later versions of the microwave.
