You already have ESM, ES1, ES2, Ultrabeat and Sculpture which sound as good (downing respective parts) as some expensive 3rd party soft synths.

Peace out.

dh hits it on the mark. logic's native synths are amazing to start with!

what i think you should do is start out with just logic's native synths - i could happily write a tune with nothing but these! compressors, EQs, and all! - and then wherever you feel a lacking, research and invest in a third-party software instrument. for exampe, you decide you need solid wavetable synthesis for your sound: grab NI Massive. you don't like ES2 for saw leads, or want a backup monster for bass? get sylenth1.

and so on.           Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. ~Kurt Vonnegut

I would definitely recommend Sylenth1 as well. But bottom line is, I don't think you're limiting yourself when you use Logic. AUs are widely available from many developers.

I would recommend using a good, simple synth and start learning about synthesis. You may not be into creating your own sounds, and may want to use presets more. But its always good to know what the knobs on a synth do, so you can mold the preset to fit into the track.

Sylenth would definitely be a good addition.

I'm pretty sure I would choose Sylenth if I had to make a track with only one softsynth. But you don't need it - between ESM and ES2, along with Sculpture for atmos/pads/fx, you really could make astounding tunes.

Learn Logic's native synths well. They will serve you so well, and teach you beginner or intermediate synthesis.           Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. ~Kurt Vonnegut

would be great if they bring something like ES3 in logic 10...would probably sound better than 90% of the 3rd party soft synths when you see how old esm es1 and es2 are, sculpture and ultrabeat are also brillant,es3 would probably be amazing..

some es2 trance/dance sound, might make you want to check es2 before spending money on any synths , it s very versatyle it s good for lot of stuff not only dance/trance like in this demo, it s a synth that really worth to be learned ,it can sound great and very punchy imo...logic synth are still some of the best sounding plug for me, their sound remind me more hardware sound but it s very personal it s probably due the hardware synths i sued in the past, there is something about the depth warmth and dirt i like a lot.
