what sorts of programs do you have?
see, VSTi's work through (usuelly) DirectX or the program's stansard platform. you have to install the proper VSTi to the proper VST plugins folder of your program, open up the program and load it from there. good luck.

moshe, they work with MIDI,
if you want to know the full midi map - try
kvr-vst site, or the readme of the VSTi.
you of course must map your midi in into this VSTi whilst playing.

enjoy virtuals :)

ok, then i will be more specific:
cubase 3.7 works with vst1 api.
fm7 works in vst2 api.
this maybe means you won't be able to use all its features.
u need to load the fm7 in "virtual instruments" panel.
if you don't know where it is ... i don't remember myself how it was in 3.7.. and cubase...
anyway read the manual where do u load a VSTi.

after this u create a midi channel in the arrange,
and then you take its output to fm7 (choose the desired channel)

that's it.
