well i wasnt really asking for software mixing stuff, i have all my music on cds just for some nice vst fx to use with my mixer

That buffer override was a nice one.. Any more?

Oh yes...the original topic...

One neat thing about Ableton is the effects racks in which you can combine effects and create macros for your knobs/switches.

This is what I have set up on each channel in Ableton:
Beat Repeat (Ableton effect rack)
LFP: Sonalksis TBK
HPF: Sonalksis TBK
Ableton Phaser
Ableton BPF (Ableton effect rack)
"Fade To Grey" (Ableton effect rack)
Ableton redux
Ableton Grain delay
Glitch
SupahTrigger
Ableton "chop" rack
Ableton "chirp" rack

And on aux 1 a ohm boys.

there are lots of djs playing vinyl that dont scratch in case you didnt know there are lots of techno, and house beeing released on vinyl still.

Sure playing vinyl can make sense for techno, but I really don't see the need for vinyl emulation for DJ software unless you are scratching.

What about tactile control of your music? Most software apps feel clunky when you're not using some sort of emulator. Also, I like the possibility of messing up when I'm djing... It makes me still think about stuff and not just have things on autopilot. This is when I'm djing though, if I'm playing semi live then I don't feel like worrying about matching beats or stuff like that...

anyway back to the topic at hand... if you have a dj mixer with a sampler or a looper on it, then you can do a lot of the glitchy type tricks... the key is to mix that with pitch manipulation and then be able to manuiplate the start and end point of the loop.

Well isnt it obvious, you can mix on turntables, without having tons of records, just one hard disk filled with mp3.. Control is the same like with "real" records.. And I said it, dj who mix on cds is same like dj who uses mix programs.. I dont call that djing, pressing sync button to beatmatch..
But for live purposes Ableton is a must have..

Gotta check that effect racks.. Havent spotted that still..           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills

With emulators it would be very hard to get decent control over all those effects so I prefer generic controllers.
My controller setup consists of a A4Tech X7G100 keypad which I been programming using AutoHotKey and a Behringer BCR2000.
I have tactile control over the whole setup with a dedicated knob/switch for each fx as well as controls for loading, cueing and looping tracks.
I only really need to watch the screen to browse tracks and don't need to touch mouse or touchpad.

@acidkills
Sorry, it's not really obvious to me.
It's obvious that it's more like "real records", but what I was wondering is in what way that is advantageous?
If you are not scratching I agree that it's a bit smoother to beatmatch manually on vinyl compared to CD but if you want it easy why bother to manually beatmatch?
And if you want it hard because it's more real that way surely it would be better to beatmatch using as cumbersome controls as possible?
For example you could do it using the laptop point-stick that you control with your left foot..that would be at least remotely impressive and actually add some entertainment to your set for the audience

First, its not smoother..
And, yeah, I want it hard, I mixed a lot on a computer before and yeah, you can do impressive stuff when u don't need to worry about pitch.. Some dj programs have features like eq crossfaders which none of mixers I know don't have.. But to make such a mix on old wrecked turntables with messed up pitch now thats an art.. + that for some reason, in deckadance the pitch isn't like on turntables +/- 10 but it goes to about +/- 18 which means less accuracy and + pitch oscillates up and down for 0.5 which makes it almost impossible to mix.. So yeah, it hard, but when u switch to some normal gear its piece of cake, thats the benefit.. But like its written in virtual dj manual, "if u suck as a dj you will suck in virtual dj too"..
So actually there is no advantage compared to "real" vinyl, same thing, but a lot cheaper and more compact.. Only advantage I see is that u can create your playlist and you have faster access to tracks compared to vinyl bags..           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills

I'm not actually sure what you are asking.
Do you have a DJ mixer that can load VST's?
Otherwise what do you use as host?

But to sum up the VST effects I use:
Sonalksis TBK
Supahtrigger
Glitch
Ohm Boys delay

A couple that seems popular but I personally didn't click with is Replicator and Lucifer.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

im using Ecler EVO 5, Digital mixer with 12 channel internal firewire card and 69 midicontrol & 64 Layouts with cdj800 and Ableton.

Why im asking is becouse im routing the cd players thru ableton and back with the mixer and i want to add some cool vst fx to it and trigger it all from the mixer
