better yet, how mono is your mono when mixing?
1 speaker or 2?
Been going down the 1 speaker route for EQ and damn if it isn't so much better for harmonic isolation!

following your ears is a worthy pursuit indeed! However, if you do one thing that is counterintuitive, make it mixing the very low stuff in mono, it might not sound quite so spangly in isolation, or on a small system, but your mixes will really, really thank you for going mono on this issue.
Take one of your stereo basses and kicks and export it to mono, see how that sounds, because that is the sound you will hear on a PA.
However, two thumbs up for following your ears! This is the way!

Mostly I mix in mono... As usually on a big rig there's cutoff point at which the lows will be converted into mono anyway...
Why risk it with something as sensitive as bass?
However what I have started doing too, with a bit of cheeky routing, is doing for example a stereo bass which then becomes mono under 125Hz...
Similarly, with a kick, it's possible to add subtly mixed early reflections verb on the top, without affecting the subs (also using cheeky routing) - adds abit of subtle depth to the mix at times
Aside from that as said... mostly in mono

in stereo the track feel empty in the center and you loose some energie. you can try multiband imagers like the one in ozone, to add only the low in the center but me i don t like. |

hmm... I'm personally not a fan of the imagers in Ozone - purely for the fact the can mess with the phase by quite a considerable amount.
Personally, I say it's a case of knowing how and when to pan, and reverb (and doing it subtly)
Also - Theoritally, main percussion like snares, should have a central impact too in terms of the stereo mix... therefore the center shouldn't really feel like it's lacking too much. Plus - even a (clean) stereo kick will feel more central than most synth patches

in mono both of them.except sometimes for the bass..if u root some mid and the high freqs to another channel and have the bass freqs in mono then i think u can play with them in stereo as the beef of the track isn't lost.
some good results can be achieved!
