On the channel or the master bus?

Clip it all!!!
now the question is, can you clip the channel without clipping the masterbus.. and you cant touch the masterfader.. ??
Of course all was joke from me... but today people really think its a nice trick to make the meters go red!! haha

That's what the text books say, but it is just a generalization.
Some people can hear a little lower some not. Some people can also hear above 20kHz, especially the younger. |

Volume of the kick
Somewhere between -12db to -8db will do the job.
Start at -9db and as the track progreses pull down the kick so it fits better in the mix.
You usualy end up around -12db.
Think of the kick and bass as one element.
try to make the kick and bass sound in same volume but without looking on the meters too much.
Sometimes the kick is higher sometime the bass.
usually there is a wide q dip @500hz to make room for most of the other sounds.
the other sounds are spread across the spectrum.
They sit around the kick not on it. |

dont be so strict but since its the loudest part of yoru track as well as the bassline , start from it , its all about headroom ,how much you want it , etc , usually the nice average stuff for a kick drum is -7 ,-9 but again no strict rules , arround that , and try always your bassline to be lower for 2 db approximatelly then your kick drum , since you want your kick drum to enter first the compressor and to be the loudest peak its good for your dynamics. |

depends on kick sound, depends on bass sound... there is no ultimate rule that will help you.
sometimes there can be 0db difference between your bass and kick and sometimes 6db difference. just listen and let it be when you think it sounds good...
