In trackers you could make a nice effect by making the volume like this: 64 11 64 11 64 11 ...
It was quite easy to do. How can I do the same in MIDI (cakewalk) without having to set the timing of every controller manually? And I don't want to make lots of short notes, I want one long note. ??? |

It sounds like... ??? I dunno, like instead of 1 long time lots of short notes. But it sounds a lot better... I think that the melody MFG - Welcome to the Edge has this effect. |

Very simple - Use velocity! |

But velocity is for one note! And if I want rapid changes, I'm gonna need lots of notes. And every time I trigger a note the sound is heard from the beginning of it. Let's say I got a sweep with lots of filters and stuff. Making lots of notes with velocity is useless. I want to make one note, then make the rapid changes in the volume. I can do it by inserting MIDI controller 7 (channel volume) but I'll have to set the time and value of every controller. And this can be very exhasusting. Any quick method for doing this? |

Ok - I didn't understand you before. The right way to do it (if your hardware/software supports it) is to modulate the volume with a pulse - shaped LFO, which is synced to midi clock. That's the quickest way. :) |

The best soilution is to use MidiGate.
It cut a sound evertime you draw a note..so u got a very precise midi view of you sound cutting.
And the good thing is that the enveloppe (filter, volume) of your sound doesn't start again..so you can make effects like Infected in Dracul (aaaaaaaahhhhha ahhhhhhhaaaaa ahah ha ha hahhah aaa)...see what i mean?

For me, the best way is to apply all what I need to the sound ( say it's a singin voice or any kind of pad ) and then either to sample it or to move it into the pc ( as wave file ) then, if I put it in the sampler no problem with the CNTRL 7 and u actually can play with it and make many sorts of grooves with the voice. Same is whilst the sound is as a wave on the pc.
The problem with those sounds from keyboards is that there are many factors as long release time, reverberation etc. that dont let the cuts be exact and then the groove fu*ks up..
The way with the gate ( and the lfo ) is good one, the only problem I have found with these is that u can not really control the groove, and in the case of the gate ( unless it's extremely exact bpm ) that it gets out of rhythm eventually.
Bom Bom,

Yuli, I can use controller 7 too, but the problem is that I need to create a new event, then set the value and set the timing, and there are a lot of volume changes, so it can take a lot of time. Is there a quick way to do it? |

The only thing I can think about that can help u is that if u use the volume cuts in certain pattern or a groove there is a possibility in cubase to copy/cut and paste controllers as well as notes. So write the first sequence ( sorry dude, in trackers in this case is easier ) and then copy paste it wherever u need. |

Trackers... kinda miss them :) There is a MIDI tracker, but it's still on development and the MIDI export hasn't been implemented yet. When it does, I'll just write it there and export, then import to my cakewalk. http://ztracker.sourceforge.net/ if anyone's intersted. |

Midigate is a plug-in i didn't meant Midi Gate as the gate property of the midi norm.
U use it as a VST instrument but every time you draw a note it doesn't produce a sound, but cuts the volume of an audio track.
For the volume cut you can choose an attack and a release time so it's just perfect if you wanna smooth the cut.
