i find myself playing chillout music in extremely loud volumes, almost the same as what i listen to trance at. i think its fun cause you get to be surrounded by the music again... just like in trance, but my friends who dont listen to trance at all find it always way to loud. is this something anyone else does?

you bet bro..! 
i cant enjoy the music if its low. proly coz i like to 'listen' to the track n not just let it play in the background, chill out totally needs attention n besides i get the punch' in the track only when its loud n blasting...espeacially at a party ud always find me right next to the speaker

me too i like to play it loud only den can i really get 'into the music'
example:- phuture primitive - rites of passage
listen to this track with low volumes n den repeat n turn the volume up (u'll know wot i m talkin bout  )

for myself, i like to play it loud
however, when playing for others, i definitely play at lower levels than trance would be palyed for others, because many ppl might want to socialize in the chill space
it all depends on the circumstances, but the louder the circumstances allow me to turn it up, the better
