Hello people,

Have a question about the volume difference between kick and bass. Kick and bass should have the same volume or is there a limit to which one can work?

Hope you can help me

nice greetings

depends on a ton of things. genre, type of kick, type of bass, personal preference... usually (and by no means a rule), for me anywhere between 2db and 6db.

it depends on the style and how things are processed really. For instance how i process the kick and bass- they are close in volume usually... but the kick is hitting at -8db and bass just slightly above. i make the bass the most dominate voice in my tracks as i feel it fits my style better as well as providing a nice rock solid backing for the rest of the track!
hope it helps!

I've always tried to have kick and bass at exactly the same volume, usually around -6db. I never considered other options, as I took that one for granted (without even asking myself why)

good tips ! yeah its realy up to you ! sometimes i want the kick to be dominant ,so i put then the kick volume a bit above the bass or example kolishin method is good ! sometimes i got even lower and put it on 4 or 5 db ! so i got head room enough for my other instruments ,then when i recording it i put a izotope 5 on it and boost the loudness maximizer on it and boom got a track what is full and my kick and bass sounds powerful nothing is lost in volume wise ! also good eq'ing and compression is importent ! with compression you should also play with ! put your ratio on the compressor on a high ratio start with a start about 4.01 ratio and your attack on 2.00 if you use the compressor of ableton , sidechain to kick ( 2.00 attack meas your give the kick and bass a settled spot in the mix ! ok then play with the threshold ! the 4.01 ratio allow you to go so far as you like and the bass is still clear in the mix ! from there you can also shape the kick and bass in volume wise how lower you go how more kick will come out and higher around -6.0db in threshold how more bass you put back ! pfffff i hope you understand my stoned tip and good luck bro

Kick + bass combo is 90% of your track.

So you can either make it 'fit' in the mix
or
compress it down in the mastering stage so it seems like its breathing to kicks volume just as the kick comes in.
