The MP3 encoding doesn't make it easy, but that's not the fault of the production.

Haha.. fair enough, I could hardly do that and I was listening on monitors, WAV/CD quality. It just seems to me that with the background sounds, pitch-shifting (unless the original is that high in pitch) that the point was to build an atmosphere, not to actually hear the vocals.

You would if you'd ever watched The Simpsons... there's no pitch-shifting in that sample I'm guessing that not having English as your first language would also work against you.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Ah..didn't realize it was a Simpsons sample.. Penta must really like the show, he's got Homer samples strewn all over his tracks. Trust me, English is not the problem, guess I'm just hard of hearing these days haha..

Not a huge Simpsons fan though..I'm more of a "family guy"

Yeah I know you can hear it clearly on your speakers at home or in headphones.

But at a party coming out of the stacks with people making noise and echo off the walls, it becomes impossible to understand.

I think the funniest samples Penta uses come from Daikatana though. The first time I heard "Time Jump" I couldn't believe someone actually played that terrible game enough to sample from it :x

You don't play the game if you wanna get a clean sample. There are apps that can open the sound and art archives of many games and extract the contents. So you get the voice recordings just as they were made for the game.

I know, I know... but you still have to play the game to know what samples to look for

You don't just open up the .pak file of a game you've never played before and listen to all the samples, that's boring.

Heresy! Wrong!

Correct Samples:

"Hi supernintendo Chalmers."

"Mrs. Krabapple and Principal Skinner were in the closet making babies and I saw one of the babies and the baby looked at me."

"- Daddy, when I grow up I wanna be just like you."
- Better start eatin' kid.
- Start eatin' kid. Haha!"

"...and when the doctor said I didn't have worms anymore, that was the happiest day of my life."

And near the end of the track (Homer simpson singing):

"When I was seventeen I drunk some very good beer.
I drunk some very good beer I bought it with a fake ID.
My name was Brian McGleen,
I stayed up listening to Queen
And I was seventeen..."

also bear in mind that when you put a track on a mega big sound system outdoors, even the most buried of vocal samples jump right out at you and scream in your face...
im not sure why but the human voice is impossible to hide from humans...
no need to panic. its in there...
nice video and i like the sample treatment in this song- its more like a musical element...
having said that, if a sample is random enough and not too arrogant i dont mind to hear it sometime... although im scared shitless to put it that way in my own music...           check new OCELOT, PROG-A-LOT and more on

unless you are listening to it on headphones there is no chance that you are going to understand wtf they're saying.

I hate to repeat myself, especially since I'm advocating druqs

When I first ate shrooms and took acid I was stunned by the fact that those samples I would never understand because of reverbs etc like you mentioned, just popped out like oCeLoT explained about the massive outdoor speakers like it was 100% crystal clear, all the mumbling and strange voices all of the sudden became perfectly understandible, I could hear what they said, no stress. So from then on I had this beliefe that it was the intention for some artists to fuck up the spoken sample used so that one almost Had to be trippin' to catch it's true meaning.

I still think so in many many cases.

Ps. Twizack, your music is really rocking (even though I have to admit i have heard very few tunes so far from you ..), great fukking job, man! - Speaking espesially about this track on page one
And TranceVisuals, beautiful work mate, ALL respect your way!
