How do labels/artists manage to use these samples in their releases? Do they pay for it? How much do they pay for it? Do they give a fuck about the laws? Do they all live in countrys where those laws don't exist? Does anyone of you know about this issue?
and the most important question: how do they know that the real world is'nt just another simulation? ;-) |

Which track is that?
I remember somewhere in the back of my head, I heard this in a track.
Isn't it Electric Universe & Space tribe???
Or: Question is, how far down the rabbithole do you wanna go
I just heard this exact same words in 'What the bleep do we know'
That must be a steal. |

I would think that a filmstudio would be glad, if people use samples from their movies in music. Thats instant free advertising

This is complete rubbish.
If you can identify a sample, you must obtain permission from the copyright holder. Doesn't matter how long or short the sample is; if you can recognise its source, it needs to be cleared.
Not that anyone does, of course

Correct. In the US, according to the law even if you can't recognize it you have to clear it...

It's illegal, but I don't think it will be a problem before the psychedellic tracks start hitting the mainstream market... so it's not a problem right now

Why do people want to sample crappy blockbuster movies anyways ie Matrix, Star Wars and other plainly obvious 7th art references?
Now I'll turn a blind eye for Simpsons or esoteric movie/tv samples (read Penta or Ghreg on Earth samples) but let's collectively stop sampling action/cheezy scifi for fullon and b-movie horror for darkpsy shall we? |

nop
you can never do it again if you like anyway who samples Matrix still ???
I look for samples from movies that no many ppl know...and only if i really think the sample would fit my track concept...Do what you like Man...
For the point now..just think how much Parasense should have paid for the Zion samples...

well, most times i record my own voice samples and say the words i want to say (if i think the track needs voices), but in one track i used samples from a blockbuster movie... thats why i asked about the legal aspects... in general i think the samples from movies give a lot to psytrance, because they are spoken by professional actors and transport a lot of feelings and associations. however only a few movies are good for that and thats why every artist uses the same samples in the end. in that sence i think self made samples on the other hand are unique and bring your personality to your music... both things have pros and cons, but i think in future i only record my own voice samples. also because of the legal situation. you never know...maybe in 10 years they play psytrance on mtv and hollywood starts sueing us and gets all our money (we waited 10 years for )
