does anyone remember the vocals from u96 - das boot? if not here is the link to remember:
www.ecliptic-trance.com/vocal.mp3
well im trying to replicate the process with no success... im convined its something more then a vocoder software... i think it might be some hardware? by which one? and it cant be that hard to do...
i even emailed the dude from u96 (probably his only fan mail since 1995) but no response...
if anyone can figure out how to, clue me in.

I don't know which vocoder they used at that time, but what i'd do would be a search through the internet for the hardware vocoders that were on the market available these years or ask someone in an electronic music gear shop what the models were around 1995.

Hi surrender,
AFAIK the vocals of "Das Boot" were made with an Atari. There was a program on it similar to the one Cyzum has posted. I tried to get this sound too but I didn`t find a pc-version.

Try this link http://www.masterpinguin.de/index.html?neu/files/content/studio.html.

It's a studio where Alex Christensen(U96) mastered his music. May be an email to them(rk@masterpinguin.de) would be helpfull, if they are kind and pro enough to answer you.

I think i found what U96 used to make these vocoded vocals in Das Boot. It was the Korg VC10. I found it in the following link http://fr.music-hardware.com/item-835-0.html

It's in French but i think that's the one.

Hope i helped.

Hi folks,
now I have it Listen to a short example:

www.martin-bartsch.de/tanzen.wav

The vocals are made with stspeech, an old Atari program. You can download it here:

http://waldorf.electro-music.com/microwave/mwrobot/stspeech.tos

With that you get the original results. Actually there is a function to record anything an save it as a .wav file. You just have to cut the beeps that result from typing ;-)

To run stspeech on your PC you need an atari emulator like Steem engine:

http://steem.atari.org/

Have fun!

An Amiga can do it aswell...so if u have 1 laying around (mine is in the cupboard somewhere)...
You did have to type in the word pretty awkward (some words had to be spelled differently) & you could choose between male or female voice...lol...and the speed of the speech...i think even the pitch could be altered...
