Vocals in psytrance...

Back at end of the 80's, and in the beginning of the 90's there was a music revolution.
For some time, certain people wanted dance music without the "human" touch. It was electronic music that could take you into trance on the dance floor. The name that came to life was Psytrance. We got what we wanted
The sad story these days, is that more and more bands are putting house vocals in their tracks. Everybody from Infected (THE worse ex!)to newer bands that I can't remember the names of now, does it. The music itself can be very good, but are being spoilt by some "ooohhh take me higer" and what not?!?
I my mind, these people should start to release what they should call : " Vocal Trance".
It would make it so much easier for us dj's to pick the right music.

Please tell me what you think about vocals in psytrance?

There are vocals and there are vocals...i think they are pitchshifted and processed so its has it's electronic touch too... i think if it brings a positive beutiful vibe and it fits right in context y not to use it?And dont u hear the song before playin it?What the hell put even opera, orcish growls or polka vocals in it as long as it fits in harmony boooom!

100% agreed Daark,

some of them are really nice so they can give you beautiful feelings when you are listening or dancing.

as long as they are rare and at the right time, i think they are ok.

Hi Dark!
I agree that vocals in some weird language, at the right time, is perfect!. What I mean is when they put songs into the track. It's like any house track, but with a psytrance backing.
I do listen to the music I buy, but it depends where I buy it, Psyshop, Beatspace or Zaiko Sounds? The two first shops gives you only 45 sek. of the tracks, so I have been fooled there. That's why they should label it "Vocal Trance". I use Zaiko Sounds now as you get 4 min. of each track wich makes it possible to find out if Bio-Tonic (they make xlnt music, but with the vocals lately...)
have made another track with soup vocals in them.
I agree with Vector_0. The way Shpongle does it is unbeatable!
I just can't help disliking singing in english about some beach or higer places to be.
Anyway, this is my opinion. Don't let me spoil the music that people seem to like.
Just one thing: Either get a new name for the music, or write that there are vocals in the track in the track info. Any track "ft.somebody" goes down the drain.
I have to admit that I am weak for hindi vocals in tracks... The difference is that hindi language doesn't make me think about housemusic.
What I mean to say in the end is that there is a big difference between bits of sampled vocals, and somebody singing through the whole track.

the only vocal trance song i really enjoy - i.e. one that features a vocal as a predominant melodic component - is Distortion Orchestra's 'Life On Earth'.

everything else, i must confess, has left me distinctly unimpressed.

however i am being somewhat hypocritical, because i have written a vocal trance track - but it was a tribute to Maria Callas, and i used a recording of her singing 'Ave Maria' to construct a melodic line. but then again, i thought my track was shit

Although I normally dont like them, they can really add another dimension to the track if well done.

eg.

Xyla - The God Within (with Michelle Belanger)

thing is that, in most vocal tracks i hear in parties, the vocals like replace the ingredients that are the bone of psychedelic dance music, psychedelica that is. i don't recall any tune with singing i heard lately which is still full of mindfuckery (left away chillout of course). therefore, it doesn't matter for me what language the singing is in. if it's made cheaply and cheesy ("housy" - though i'm not saying i don't like house music; i do) it always makes me wanna shear my head. other thing are the lyrics...bah, no comment.

an example of really awesome use of vocals would be Talpa - The Moon. it's huge.

i think we should start a petition for more psychedelic music. who'd sign?

btw, ketil, i like that expression soup vocals

Vocals in psytrance suck and don't belong. Sampling was ok, and even some of the weird vocalised sounds from Shpongle were fun... but voals belong with house music and pop... I haven't heard one track in about oh 10 years of being a part of this scene that was good... it's another carry on from the full on scene which in itself sucks as well!

Id like to hear some vocals with an attitude, not the regular bullshit vocals like -im high and i can touch the sky, Sang by some blonde bimbo,
I say let Jamey Jasta add some lines.
For all you who don´t know who Jamey Jasta is please indulge yourself with the words this gifted man has to offer.

when it comes to parties i usually dislike vocals tracks in a middle of a set ,it smells commercial and lose the psy touch...
stop this offer nissim plague already!

although there are couple of vocals tracks that manage to keep the psy spirit like anak said the moon by talpa ...or mandalavandalz's - kaunista
