I get this unexplainable feeling everytime I hear cut-up vocals used as another musical insturment (sound) in a track.
This is very hard to explain, but I think that very few artists do this. One of them is Simon Posford and another is Infected Mushroom. You can hear this very well on "I see myself", And also on "Trancespotter".
I was wondering a couple of things: How do they make this amazing effect? What equipment is needed? Who else uses these broken up vocals? (specific tracks please). I have only heard broken up womens vocals, anybody uses a man's voice?

A good example of this effect is: Biotonic - 3rd Link
I'm not crazy about the track itself, but the cut-up distortred vocals drive me crazy...
anyway, just take a vocal sample and load it in WavLab (just for example). Now use cut and paste to move around parts of the sample, and place then in a different order. Now just play with the sample and use some effects to scramble up the sound...

I think that the easiest way is to use Fruity Loops 3.5 and it's Granulizer and there's also a little tutorial that explains how to chop the sounds. Just look for the gate effect tutorial.
How can you forget Space Cat - Power up?
BtW isn't it a topic for equipment and music creation forum?

Son Kite - Where's My Drum (subtle but great)
Hallucinogen - Shamanix (yeah!!!)
Goat Ranch 7 - Nanoteque (not broken up, but very well used)
... Trancespotter is the best use of this effect ever though. That cut up chanting monk on the buildup before the lead enters there is a step beyond insanity

I'm not sure how they do this; This question is bugging me too. Maybe recycle is involved, maybe they used a synth as a chopper (possible in the Virus, for example, by applying the dynamic option in the input mode and than playing the keys in a desired rhythm).
BTW, a chopped man's voice can be found on Vibrasphere - Echo-plantation.
