one of the easiest and most fun things to do is to put in a shortish vocal snippet, maybe of someone saying 'oooooh ahhhhh eeeee' or something, then putting that into a sampler. Now, write in a MIDI pattern (try straight 16ths for a start) and adjust the sample start and pitch.
As for processing...delays set to milliseconds and automating the milliseconds is an interest pitch effect, grain delay/grain FX work well on voices... If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Tom cosm has a nice video on vocals give it a google... also keep the high frequencies away keep in mind you need space between hi hats and other sounds mid frequencies can also get overwhelming so avoid putting them too high as well.... clean samples can sound best but spice things up too like willsanqull mentioned good luck
PS delays are fun fx on vocals

most psytrance i hear, the only thing they really do to vocals is filtering and delay. but there are all sorts of interesting things you can with the sample itself, and timestretching, chopping, reversing, etc...
i like to hear some cool phrase chopped up and made into a catchy melody/rhythm.. this is done well in lots of trance as well as hardcore |

there are so many ways and tricks on vocal recordings or processing like probably on nothing other.
Lots of great stuff already in tis trhead's been mentioned.
I find it always important to start the vocal chain always with atleast 2 compressors one for the highest peak and the other to squash it a bit and pump it up ,a bit deesser (before the comps) if needed maybe noise gate (as first insert) to get rid of any unwanted frequencies towards bottom some light tube or a bit of nice sounding distortion maybe .Of course the right eq (i like eq before compressors but thats just a matter of taste).
Playing in sampler is opens new horizons.
What I did recently is to cut the words/syllabify and then play with the syllable like repete one of a word and bring each syllable maybe some semitones higher or lower or an octave than automate the panorama.
In cubase its nice with offline processing to jump from one syllable to other and bring some effects to it.
Sharp syllables like s or f is nice to bring'em on own track for a special eq only for those, maybe some high cut. Group all vocal tracks into a stereo group and compress again.
I like it.
I guess tons of tricks are existent. Than melodyne its possible to do with it other tings than this commercial standard.
Timestretching/warping aswell is also fun.The trick with the sample start in sampler can also be very fun in combo with many midi notes.
Vocals rock so much if done interesting

load the vocal sample in granualizer!
Cut at 200Hz to avoid conflicting with the kick and bass!
Eq and Enhance freq tht u wish to be heard!
Apply Filter Fx on the mixer bus
Apply Izotope Nectar - its really good for processing vocals(not sure if its free)
Apply Delay
Another thing tht can be done is use a stereo enhancer on the vocals - it can make them sound brighter
Mayb try and sidechain - is helpful at times
Chop/Draw on the piano roll to as what sounds pleasing to you
No rulez and ideas and experiments will make u have your own unique style!
Trust your ears!!
