VJing and Festival Deco-how does one get into this??

I'm really interested (or should I say, passionate) in decorating for goa-festivals. Is there anyone out there who knows how I could get into contact with any group that does this? Or perhaps just some info on how it works (prerequisites, money/no money)?

I'm also extremely interested in VJing (this is right up my alley). Are there any good programs out there? I've tried one already, it had nice visuals and all, but you had to record the images live. I'm more interested in making something really quality that fits with the music and not something I just made up on the spot.

I'd appreciate any info and tips you guys have to offer!

Thanks!!           If your curiosity has been satisfied, you haven't wasted your time.

look at Motion-Dive for vj'ing, it's quite an interesting program.

As for deco at festivals, i think you'd first have to prove yourself as a deco artist for local events, then bigger events, and hopefully get noticed for the huge ones... but nobody gets to decorate a huge festival without references           www.psytracks.com :: Brand new website for sharing your psytracks with the world. Hi guys! Thanks for the VJ tips, I'm mere minutes away from checking them out!

About the festival deco, I guess I was a bit too vague....... I purposely left out my background in art and decorating, because I figured I wasn't the only one out there interested in this.
OK, background in a nutshell: I've done my duty of decorating underground goa parties with a severely limited deco budget, I've spent the last 2 years travelling around europe and Egypt painting scenographies (backdrops for shows) and creating props (as well as entertaining). I've really had it with being a human printer and not being able to paint and decorate what I'm into (ie:anything psychedelic, trippy, or hypnotic.)
I was wondering if these lucky-ass people who get to design and decorate these mind-blowing festivals do this for a living, or is it purely volunteer work. Like I said, I really have no idea how this works.
If there is anyone out there who has had experience with decorating festivals (with a real budget, that doesn't include surfing thru dumpsters for materials), I'd really love to hear about your experiences!           If your curiosity has been satisfied, you haven't wasted your time.

Just found this, and thought it might be helpful...
(for any vj)

and - http://www.VJcentral.com

there is a lot of information about decorations and installations there,
find it, read it, understand it and do it...
but use your psychedelic eyes, mind and understanding in creating a newer version of what you see and read in life.

Good luck, dude...

Well, I'm not so sure about that...
If you know how to paint large scenographies, you can always paint one, contact the festival organizers and ask if you can hang one over the typical festival-fences...(usually festival websites ask artists to get in contact with them through the website anyway)....so you can send them a picture of your scenography, include the dimensions and the organisers can pick a spot for it.
All you'd have to do is bring it and hang it up over the fence! This way you'd also cover up a fence!
I think there are a lot of small ways like this in which you could add your deco skills to festivals, and these would in time get your stuff and style noticed, which in due time surely would result in actual collaborations with other artists, or the main deco teams.

Suggestions: Flyer art (handpainted flyers are becoming rara), Cd-cover art, Fire-show scenographies, Blacklight Henna workshops, Dj booth murals, etc etc.

The way you talk about it, I'm sure it won't be long before we can feast our eyes on your creations!!!

Good Luck!

i make differant kinds of stringart and i find that wether im decorating the whole party or just bring in one or two pieces, people will seek me out if they like and are interested in having me work on there parties. as for festival, u can always just put ur stuff up around ur camp or wherever there isnt any deco. no one will mind as it adds to the party, and more ppl will see and take interest
