Now, all of them come with Vista installed ( DAMN MONOPOLY)
Are you guys familiar with the system? does Cubase SX3 and vst type of plugins run fine on Vista.
Would like to know.
Thanks in advanced.

well, dell. if you don't want to be forced to buy vista, look for laptops that come with pre-installed linux. you can then choose what you want to do. (e.g. buy xp). for example, dell has begun to preinstall linux:

good luck and don't bow to the evil ;-)

My new laptop came with Vista so i installed my soundcard (RME Fireface) and it ran fine..I did not have the patience to install & test vsti plugins on it since i had to reinstall XP..
I guess it should work fine but like Orange said some drivers might have issues since everyone has to write new one's for vista..It might also be a little slower since its running a lot of applications in the background to make it look 'pretty'

LOL, it is ridiculous. I need a new laptop for live gigs.
And I guess I will be worried about what runs or what doesn't, I might buy it with vista and format the whole hard drive with XP.
I believe it is an option, and even then, retail store are not allowed to sell XP anymore, so, online sells its an option.

don't do that, really why would you want to pay for vista if you don't use it? support manufacturers that give you a choice. no? $ exp(j*pi) + 1 = 0. $ |

As DTD said..There are online retailers that sell laptops with no operating system, so you can save money there and put your own one on. They are defintely out there, so shop about and compare prices.
If there is a Dell laptop with a Microsoft OS on that isn't in the Linux section, it's worth noting that Dell HAS given refunds for the OS when you ask them. It's not 100%, but some manufacters have been talked into giving money back for unused operating systems.

Worth a try.
I certainly won't be using Vista... ever hopefully. Stick with what is tried and tested and supported. |
