x-rayz can you link me some more info on using the Virus that way? I honestly don't know much about SPDIF and am curious to learn more about it specifically relating to what you said.

Unfortunately not, its all trial and error learned and very little info from access support..
But theres really not much to know about it..
Its digital connection, u gotta have coaxial cable that supports SPDIF, its like normal chinch, but it doesnt introduce any noise. Also via SPDIF u can send word clock, so the signal can be in sync. Thats similar to MIDI synchronization.
BTW I experienced some problems with clock on SPDIF input.
Its just bad that Virus doesnt have optical SPDIF or ADAT but coaxial is fine too..
I use SPDIF, if I use it, cause I have one analog and one digital input on my soundcard, so I route Virus via SPDIF and leave analog input to be used by two other stacked synths.. Using virus on laptop as soundcard is USB all the way so no need to mess with SPDIF..
Basically, SPDIF and USB connections on virus have no difference in quality..
But if I had to choose between analog and digital of course it would be SPDIF.. And beside, when using SPDIF u leave 3 analog outputs to be used for sending sounds to other outboard synths/effects..
One more thing, when if u wanna use SPDIF be sure OUT1/2 on virus is activated..
Well thats about it, and I repeat, theres really no need to use SPDIF when u can use USB, its just my personal relationship with Virus based on the setup I have and things I wanna do with it.. Its just one way of total integration..

+1
in fact, only thing that is mentioned in tutorial is that virus is capable of SPDIF connection, and plus that, support just repeats that..
Luckily guys from ableton support helped me much with this and shared enough info so I can integrate the beast totally..
I can paste the e-mails but theres no purpose cause its all related to my setup..
If u experiment and ur stuck with it, let me know exactly what went wrong and what are u trying to achieve and Ill be glad to help..

Never mind what I said above... I am still getting errors and crashes with 3.01.10 when using Cubase SX3
I have noticed that when playing sounds though VTI1 un Cubase (in this case, my bassline) and I play sounds through VTI2 on another Virus channel, the audio in VTI1 will fade in and out in volume and gradually return to normal after I stop playing notes in VTI2.
Also, very often I notice that when I switch to Free Tape Delay in Virus Control, the normal sounds are replaced by loud artifacts and popping/clicking. If I don't stop playing notes as soon as this noise starts, the Virus freezes and all the lights begin flashing randomly. I then have to pull the power cord and plug it back in to restart.
Sometimes this doesn't happen, and instead I get a short yet loud static wash, and the Virus stops playing notes on the keyboard until I reboot both Virus and PC.
I have since rolled back to 3.01.06 which was the last beta version working correctly for me and the problem still remains. I can also force the Virus to freeze up as above using no DAW but instead switching to Free Tape Delay in the preset hardware menu.
This makes it impossible for me to make music in Cubase (Although Ableton Live 7 is still stable as ever, despite still being able to prompt a possible freeze using Free Tape Delay switch).
I am currently in contact with Access Support about this issue and will update here with what I find out.

Damn, now with both version 3.0.09 and even worse (it seems) on version 3.0.10, my Virus totally loses control when playing more than 1 channel at the same time.
Its arp goes completely out of sync, sounds hang, get ducked away by other sounds.
It's just unworkable like this in Cubase SX.
But at the same time, I'm also using my Virus TI as my audio interface.
So maybe that's part of the problem.
I will have to recheck with my other configuration, but don't feel like pulling and plugging cables right now
And why is the third usb channel still not available for my Snow?
I don't get it why they do show that there's a 3rd usb channel in Viruscontrol, but it seems they haven't worked a way out of getting it to work!? |

Djones, looks like you and I have the same problem.
I've been writing Access Support about this and I'll update as soon as they give me something worthwhile.

That sounds to me like phase cancellation..
As for other stuff, I don't get, why do u guys even bother with new OS3, Im on 2.7.5 and everything's running smooth, cant u just be patient and wait for the final version..

No, lol
Not phase cancellation either... the sounds faded out stay faded out even once the other sounds are done playing, then gradually return to their normal volume after a period of a few seconds.

One problem solved via access support.
Apparently my sounds-affecting-each-other situation may stem from my specific patches. The bass I was using in my current project displays 4/5 bars on the TI screen, whereas most of my other basses disply only 1/5 or 2/5 bars. I did not notice this before as my other basses ended up being relatively simple thus I did not have this problem. Most of my leads/arps end up being 4/5 or 5/5 bars, which was eating resources. So in this case this problem seems coincidental. When I switched to a "lighter" bass (in terms of resources) and also when i played two Init patches together, I did not have this problem.
I am still talking to Access Support, by the way (who have been very prompt in their replies, kudos to them , about my other issues and will continue posting here with updates.

Well so far, nothing solved here.
It's completely out of sync, arp hangs, and presets hang when changing presets.
2 days ago, all of a sudden version 3.0.09 was dissapeared from the Access site, now it's back since yesterday, and as well, they now even have version number 3.0.05 on the website.
Seems like Access is losing control over this issue and just throws out all possible working versions.
But any explanation of how the voicing actually works, how and what exactly eats up how many resources?
It's all just rather vague here. |

No, although I asked Access Support about the voicing/resource usage in my last mail, so when I get a response on that, I'll post it here.
I jsut checked with a friend in the USA who has a Polar running 3.01.09 and for him it is running fine.

Probably cause there are two instances of VST, one for TI and one for Polar..
I cant even load latest 3.01.06, it loads but its transparent, I see just the frame of the VST..
