Well, they are really diferent synths...with very dif sounds so its not really fair to say which is the "best"

I personally have NL2 and had a NL3 for a year, and although the interface of the 3 is far better with all the leds, I still prefer the raw sound of the 2...wich I still keep and will always be my baby heheh

I think the 2nd hand NL2 plus second hands Virus B option could be a great choice...

Anyway, whaterver you choose will make you happy! They´re all GREAT toys!!hehehe

they both win and they both lose...

I think the virus Ti is easier to use and has a broader canvas of sounds... But most of it's canvas of sounds is already heavily overused (never use the factory presets or downloaded presets on this one if you want to sound original). But I do believe that the virus has a lot of sounds under the hood we didn't hear yet...

The lead3 has a less broad sound canvas, but it can make a lot of sounds the virus can't make. It's also used a lot in psytrance, but it's not nearly as overused as a virus... It's much better at make metalic sounds. It has less raw power though...

I'd go for the nord lead, simply because it's not used as much (although it is the second most popular synth in psy)

Dont forget that TI means Total integration wich introduces a never seen before Vsti connection between the synth and your sequencer wich is pretty amazing !!!

Im still in the WOW stage of my christmas present (TI) and it has endless possibilities, still you will have your head around a bunch of bugs derived of the early stage of the OS,nothing much IMO...

Have a nice flight with the TI

Yep, the Virus TI and NL3 are great machines... But Virus TI has much more power than NL3 and sounds better, IMHO.

Hummmm, the Nord 1 and 2 were abused on Psy, not the NL3.

..::Sc!zOpHrEn!kZ::..

As BLiXeM said, both are digital. They uses mathematical models for oscillators, filter etc. These equations models - or, at least try - the nonlinearities found on real analog synths. That's why virtual analogs synths sounds better (warm, fat, punch etc. you name it) than those ROM-based with digital filter (filter not modelled from analog, ex: Roland XP80).

ABOUT differences between NL2 & NL3:
The bottom line is: NL2 & NL3 are different.
You can see this reading several reviews available online (REMIX, Sound-On-Sound, Eletronic Musician, Keyboard Magazine etc.) OR listening both on some store. Each one of them has its sound.

Suggestion: Yamaha AN1x is very underrated and underused on Psy (in fact, any kind of trance), and sounds really fat and amazing. Besides that, has a Moog and Prophet-5 emulation that's awesome, better than my Supernova 2 can do. Forget the Pro-53 and use this one! And AN1x are very very cheap nowadays. Wow! (I had a CS6x with two PLG-150AN plug-in board installed on it - you know, 150AN board is the cutdown polyphony version of AN1x).

AK.

Yeah... the Access TI is the best piece of equipment i've got.

There are (as FREGLE said) so many sound possibilities 'under the bonnet' so to speak... have been spending a long time designing sounds from scratch, and coming up with some both really twisted sounds and FX; and some really lovely warm melodic pads and strong leads...

I feel though, that although the presets are great to tweak (and are definitely fucking great presets) the best way to learn your way around the synth is to start patch sculpting from scratch... It's just such a powerful beast of a synth, that there are seemingly infinite possibilities and parameter variations..

I love it hehe

Yeah, apart from the NL2/VirusB 2nd hand option I choose,

If I had to choose just between the NL3 or Virus TI with no doubt I would go for the Virus...

Just to add a bit of confusion, you might want to wait for the new Korg Radias. Video here:

One sure advantage: No one has one yet!

There is no such thing as the BEST synth..... especially when you want to compare synths like nords and virusses. They are all good. It's all about the sounds that you are after.Check out different demos and make up your own mind. Then take your baby home and tweak the %^&*#@!! out of it......hehehe.I've got a virus and it sounds better every time I switch the monster on......hehehe!

happy days!
