Hey all!

I just realised that I might have been stupid=)

I was going to buy the Virus TI with a soundcard that have many inputs...

This was mainly for my new virus and other synthesizers...

but my question is:

Do I really need to buy a soundcard with many inputs for the Virus TI?

Maybe the thought is that I only need a single USB-cable to connect the virus and use like 16 sounds from it at the same time in i.e Cubase?

Please xplain the truth for me..it feels like i'm living in two seperate worlds right now hehe..and it sounds too good to be true to dont have to get inputs for the virus..

cheers!

Using the TI as an interface seems like a valid, though not very flexible option. The best way to do it is probably with an interface (at least one set of stereo i/o), midi interface (i recommend one of the MOTU models, either 5 or 9 midi outs), and an analog mixer (one set of stereo ins for every synth you're looking to use simultaneously). You don't necessarily need a mixer in this setup if you have an interface with the same amount of inputs, but I find it easier, cheaper, and more reliable to use one. Of course all of this is just for a setup running several hardware synths at the same time. If you just want to create one track at a time with one synth at a time and bounce them, any interface with audio and midi i/o will work, and a mixer is helpful but not completely necessary.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

you get only 3 stereo tracks into cubase via USB. (only stereo, not possible to switch to 6mono)

You can of course send 16 different sounds via those those 3 stereo tracks into your computer, but you can't mix down 16 seperate sounds on seperate channels in the mixer of your software.

If you want more seperate mixer channels from your virus you need an audio interface. for example with 6 inputs would give you another 3stereo or 6 mono channels (here you can choose yourself if stereo or mono.

You don't need a midiinterface for the virus if you run it with the virus control plugin in your sequenzer. Actually the Virus TI wont even receive midi if its in virus control mode. you will control it like a normal vst instrument in your host.
