it really matter cause the sound is more pure , then it depends if the distortion is analog or not but the purest source is always better usually ,it give the choice , its not that hard to make a clean sound dirty but the other way is not easy |

Pure? Distortion basically adds small spikes along the waveform's shape, so I don't see why a pure input would be of major importance since the output is kind of "unpure". Is there such a thing as a pure/clean white noise or something like that? http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

i don t know how to say ,it s something with how it sound, for example in 2 distorted sound one could need lot of notchs cause of some bad resonant peaks and the other not, cause it s more pure sounding , so if you take bad oscillators plus bad digital distortion you will get lot of crap , a distorted sound can still sound very pure when it s free of aliasing and digital artifacts .
but it s not much a problem, we don t even need to take care about all that cause everyhting sound digital |

I've had one for a couple of years now. I won't say that the virus is unique, i'm sure many vsti's can replicate it's sounds.
However what does make it unique is how easy it is to use & how easily it integrates with your sequencer. All the knobs are right there, it gives you 16 sounds with their own effects, you don't have to mess around with midi or other cables etc. It has several other cool features plus you can use it as your midi-controller.
So i wouldn't part with mine just because i doubt that there's another VA-synth out there that is as easy to use as the TI.

warmth dont come from synths to me, it comes from analog gears that enahnce the sound with saturation, driving a good analog desk ,instant warmth for example even if you send a vsti, it s not much about the sound of the synth in my experience even if using a analog one could give better warmth cause the sound is more pure. warmth don t exist in digital or is very hard to get and need lot of skill. analog gears make it super easy (the hard thing is to find the gear that have the warmth you are looking for ) |

"warmth" = minor soft distortion caused by nonlinearity of circuits (i.e. the "squashed" sine waves I mentioned before). People often describe vinyl and vaccuum tube/valve amplifiers as being "warm" because they both subtly introduce a specific kind of distortion/compression that is very smooth (as opposed to hard-clipping which is very harsh sounding) |

| That's not what distortion does at all. Distortion "squishes" the waveform down
distortion = compression with instant attack (so brickwall limiting, clipping, soft-clipping are all distortion) |

How much does it matter to have a clean waveform when most people seem to be putting a distortion on it?
