Heh, nah there's no need to take it down to the level of an a/b/c, I'm leaving the USB plug in to bounce tracks, I just don't use the Virus ASIO driver as my sound device, I switched back to my old device. So you still do the TI direct data stream to your HD when bouncing, without having to use their buggy ASIO drivers.
But yeah, having 2 bandwidth heavy USB devices, I needed to plug them on separate busses.

I don't know Meta, i think your nitpicking. You have the fucking best synth ever made right there. Forget this nonsense, dig down into those graintables, that sick FOF/bp filter shit, then throw it through the god of digital filters. |

Meta, apologies for off-topic, but would it be practical / advisable to use the TI as both synth and audio interface in a live setting? |

Hey, if it is stable on your system, then it'd probably be fine. It's definitely got one of the lowest latencies of any devices I've used.
As with any device, the only way to know is to do practice runs. I've had occasional minor glitches with a variety of interfaces, there's no such thing as a perfect interface.
I'm just not sure if I'd be comfortable taking my most valued possession to a party...

I've got one of these here at home too, and I wouldn't really rely on it for a live performance basis... No questions about it being an incredibly awesome synth, however, it's marketed as being a midi controller, audio interface, AND a kick ass synth. If it's gonna be all that, then all the parts should friggin work properly. I fully believe that access rushed this product to take away some of the thunder from the Nord G2, which is also a really kick ass synth. Even more versatile than the TI...
So if you paid the obscene amount of money thinking it would solve your sound card issue, you might be a little disappointed, and if you only have 2 usb ports and have another usb audio interface, you'll definitely be frustrated, but if you're using it as a sound module, then you'll love it!
And I wouldn't take anything that cost me that much money out to play somewhere... If I did a live set for people at my house, maybe...
Lastly, there's no such thing as nitpicking when it comes to sound quality. You have to be anal retentive and a perfectionist...

maybe if you want to spend all of your time programming patches and soft knobs
i for one can say that its performance depends on your software setup
I tried using it as an interface with Live, and it just crashed the program or makes strange noises i.e. completely unusabe with Live
Logic, though, rock solid, and sounds great
if you are getting the strange artifact, try playing around with your software setup, or use a different program for your live sets.
unfortunately I'm not a PC user so thats the extent of advice I can give, but the fact that I had such an experience may give you some ideas

thanks heaps folks
the reason i ask is that it's a bit of a pain carrying soundcard, instruments, midi controller and laptop to gigs... and the notion of strapping just the laptop, TI and violin onto my back and actually walking upright to gigs (!) sounds so damn appealing
plus being able to 'free up' a USB port on crowded laptop hubs would be ace... will definitely investigate further.
thanks again! |
